أَلا قاتَلَ اللَهُ الأولى كفَروا بِهِ

وَفازوا بِرأس الهرثميِّ حُسَينِ

Alas, may God destroy those who disbelieved in him

Verily, may Allah curse those who disbelieved in Him,

And won the head of Al-Harthami Hussein

And seized in triumph the head of al-Harthami, Husayn.

لَقَد أَورَدوا منه قناة صَليبةً

بِشَطبٍ يَمانيّ وَرمح رَدَينيّ

They have indeed inflicted upon him a dreadful wound

They surely plunged into him a sturdy shaft,

With a Yemeni cane and a Radeeni spear

With a grooved Yemeni blade and a Rudayni spear.

رَجا في خلاف الحَقّ عَزاً وإِمرَةً

فألبسه التأميل خُفَّ حُنَين

He hoped, against truth, for glory and leadership

He hoped, in opposing the Right, for power and command,

So eventual humiliation put him in shoes of disgrace

But his ambition clothed him in the slippers of Hunayn.
