How excellent is protective jealousy in its proper time,

And how repugnant is jealousy at every turn.

He who ceases not to accuse his wife,

Besieging her with the doubts of suspicion,

Is on the verge of inciting her to the very deed

He fears will expose her to the eyes of men.

It suffices for her protection that you entrust her

To your own sound honor and religious conscience.

Let her not witness any impropriety from you,

Lest the partner follows the path of their companion.
