My suspicions have done you wrong,
Satisfy for me my dark suspicions,
And my groans - their heat.
And the burning heat of my moans.
What can raving do but add, my friend,
What do you intend by this abandonment?
To all my false suspicions?
My dark suspicions are suffering enough.
Or does it not suffice that I
Does it not suffice you that I am,
Am cut off from all society?
Because of you, severed from all companions?
So to you I complain of all those
So to your gaze I complain,
With roving eyes and outward charms,
Of every eye that captivates.
And those cheeks that are scratched
And to the cheek that is,
By the glances of all who look.
Wounded by the mere glances of eyes.
I've approached you humbly,
I have drawn near to you,
Like the meek and needy;
With the submission of the wretched.
So take pity on my pain, or else
So have mercy on my affliction, or else,
Grant me rest - kill me!
Grant me relief and slay me.
