O you who call jurisprudence to its people
O you who announce the death of Jurisprudence to its kin,
Though Jacob has passed away, unknowing
If Ya'qub has died—though you perceive it not—
Jurisprudence did not die, but rather
Jurisprudence has not died; rather, it
It was transferred from one chest to another
Has been transferred from one heart to another.
Jacob passed it on to Joseph
Ya'qub bestowed it upon Yusuf,
And it moved from purity to purity
And it passed from fragrance to purity.
So it remains, and when he passed away
So it remains abiding; yet if he were to perish,
It settled, and jurisprudence settled in a grave
He would settle, and Jurisprudence would settle in a grave.
