وَخلجةِ ظَنٍّ يَسبِق الطَرفَ حَزمُها
تُشيف عَلى غُنم وَتُمكِن مِن ذَحلِ
And a sudden thought whose resolve outruns the glance,
that looks toward gain and makes vengeance possible—
صَدعتُ بِها وَالقَومُ فَوضى كَأَنَّهُم
بِكارةُ مِرباع تُبَصبِصُ لِلفَحلِ
I proclaimed it while the people were in disarray, as though they were
young she-camels of a spring pasture, wagging their tails for the stallion.
