A salutation, like the breath of gardens, mingled

with a scented breeze beneath rain pouring down upon them.

The moist breeze trails its skirts among them,

taking as recompense what their bosoms had clasped shut.

It strides proudly through the valley of lavender, bearing within it

blossoms from there, their fragrance now redoubled.

Thus, in perfume from Dārin, of its fragrant wafts there is

a tale, whenever the winds betray it as they blow.

Upon the lofty Sadīdī gathering—indeed, I am

the reciter of the virtues of its glory and the orator who proclaims them—

upon a gathering souls yearn to meet,

    and toward which yearning hearts come plunging;

where eminence is guarded and kept inviolate, while gifts

are held cheap, and virtue’s marketplace displays its every kind.
