أَنِستُ بِوَحدَتي وَلَزِمتُ بَيتي
فَطابَ الأُنسُ لي وَنَما السُرورُ
I became accustomed to being alone and remained in my home
So solitude became pleasant for me and joy grew
فَأَدَّبَني الزَمانُ فَلا أُبالي
هُجِرتُ فَلا أُزار وَلا أَزورُ
Time has disciplined me so I do not care
I was abandoned so I neither console nor visit
وَلَستُ بِسائِلٍ ما دُمتُ حَيّاً
أَسارَ الجَيشُ أَم رَكِبَ الأَميرُ
And I am not one who asks, as long as I live,
Whether the army was captured or the prince rode off
