أَيا ساكني مصرٍ عفا اللّهُ عنكمُ

وعافاكمُ مما أُلاقيهِ منكمُ

O inhabitants of Egypt, may God forgive you

And spare you from what I have suffered at your hands

أَبيتُ على هجرانكمْ مُتندِّماً

ومَنْ ينأَ عنكمْ كيف لا يَتَنَدَّمُ

I regret having deserted you

And who could help but feel regret?

فإنْ كنتمُ لم تعلموا ما لقيتُهُ

مِن الوجدِ والأَشواقِ فاللّهُ يعلمُ

If you did not know the longing and yearning

I have felt, God knows

بقيتمْ وعشتمْ سالمين من الأذى

ومنيةُ قلبي أَنْ تعيشوا وتَسلموا

You have remained safe from harm

And my dying wish is that you live on unharmed
