تذكرت في جلق دارَكم

بمصر فيا بُعدَ ما بيننا

In Jallaq, I remembered your dwelling

yesterday—oh, how vast the distance between us!

وما أَتمنَّى سوى قربكم

وذلك واللّهِ كلُّ المُنى

I wish for nothing but nearness to you,

and that, by God, is all I desire.

يدل نسيمكم بالأريجِ

عليكم وبرقكم بالسّنا

Your breeze, through its fragrance, points

to you—and your lightning through its radiance.

لكم بالجنابِ وطيبِ المقام

وحسن النَّعيم بمصر الهنا

In that precinct, yours is a pleasant abode

and the beauty of bliss in Egypt, home of joy.

فحثُّوا النَّسيمَ لإبلاغه

سلامكم في النَّوى لا ونَى

So urge the breeze to deliver

your greeting across the distance, without flagging.

ودُلُّوا على الدوحِ قلبي فقد

عناني لأشواقكم ما عنا

And guide my heart toward the spreading trees, for

longing for you has made me suffer what it has.

وإنِّي فقيرٌ إلى وصلكم

ومن نالَ ذلكَ نالَ الغِنَى

Indeed, I am poor for want of union with you,

and whoever attains union with you attains riches.
