دارِ غيرَ اللّبيبِ إنْ كنتَ ذا ل

بٍ ولاطفْهُ حين يأتي بحذْقِ

A house unlike the wise - if you have a subtle wit -

Do not reproach when it errs, but mend it with tact.

فأَخو السُّكرِ لا يخاطبُهُ الصّا

حي إلى أَنْ يُفيق إلاَّ برِفقِ

The sober will not address one drunk on power

Until he wakes, except with gentle tact.
