The base man is not ennobled by arraying himself
No honor comes to the base man from being clad
in wealth’s crown and brocade;
by wealth in a crown and fine brocade —
and has the hoopoe escaped its own stench
and did the hoopoe ever escape its stench
by dressing itself in brocade and a crown?
by donning the brocade and the crown?
