قد قلتُ لمّا فاقَ خطُّ عذارِه
في الحُسنِ خَطَّ يمينهِ المُستَملَحا
I said, when the line of down upon his cheek surpassed
in beauty the admired script of his right hand:
منَ يكتبِ الخطَّ المليحَ لغيرِهِ
فلنفسه لا شكَّ يكتُب أَملَحا
“Whoever writes lovely script for another
for himself, without doubt, writes something lovelier.”
