أَجدَّكَ ما ينفكُّ قلبٌ مُحبّسٌ

عليك وأبصارٌ إليكَ شواخصُ

I find you, whom no captive heart ever ceases

To love, and eyes raised eagerly towards you.

وطرفُك معتَلٌّ وجسمُكَ سالمٌ

وصُدغُكَ مَهْموزٌ وخَصْرك ناقص

Your eyelid is languid, your body unharmed,

Your cheekbone crumpled, your waist incomplete.

ولي عَبَراتٌ فوقَ خَدِّي رواقصٌ

ولي حَسَراتٌ تحتَ ضلعي قَوارِصُ

I have tears flowing down my cheek, dancing,

And sorrows beneath my ribs, gnawing.

مَزّجتُ دُموعي بالدِّماءِ صبابةً

فدَمعيَ مَمْزوجٌ ووديَ خالِصُ

I mixed my tears with blood passionately,

So my tears are blended and my love is pure.
