The days inflict pain and wound us,

Filling the cup with tears, piercing with sorrows.

Fortune is but sorrow after sorrow,

In both we grieve and rejoice.

    People are but fellow travelers,

Going towards their final abode, evening and morning.

The law of fate rules all, ever thrusting

Its piercing horns in the face of humankind.
