1. عجبتُ لطيفها أنّى تَصَدّى

    وأَومضّ بالتواصُلِ ثمَّ صَدّا

    I wonder, how can she be aloof?

    She flashed a smile of rapport, then turned away.

  2. نصبتُ لصيده أشراكَ نَومي

    وصاحَ الانتباهُ به فنَدّا

    I set the snares of slumber to catch her,

    But the alertness within her cried out, startling her awake.

  3. هو الطاووسُ زيّاً واختيالاً

    ولكنْ كالقَطا ليلاً تَهَدّى

    She is a peacock in splendor and vanity,

    Yet like a cat in the night, she creeps furtively.
