1. خلِّ جُرجانَ وخيِّم أينَما

    شئتَ من مَرعىً مُباحٍ وحِمى

    Pitch your tent wherever you please

    In permitted pasture or protected preserve

  2. إنّها دارُ هوانٍ تركَتٍْ

    مَغنمَ القاطنِ فيها مَغرما

    For it is an abode of humiliation left behind

    Whose dweller profits, though losing

  3. ليسَ ذو الدرهم يَدري أنّهُ

    يشتري ثَلجاً بهِ أم فَحَما

    The owner of the dirham does not know

    If he buys ice or coal with it
