وجهٌ حكى الوصلَ طيباً زانَهُ صُدُغٌ
كأنّه الهَجرُ فوقَ الوصلِ علّقَهُ
A face that resembled union in sweetness, adorned by sidelocks;
as though separation had hung them above union.
وقد رأيتُ أعاجيبَ الزمانِ وما
رأيتُ وصلاً يكونُ الهَجْرُ رونَقَهُ
And I have seen the wonders of time, but never
have I seen a union whose luster is separation.
