أَمير اللواء وافَتك مِن شاكِرٍ لَكُم

سُطورٌ تُنادي شَبَّ عمرو عَن الطَوقِ

O commander of the brigade, here—from one grateful to you—are

lines proclaiming, “ʿAmr has outgrown the collar,”

تَهنّي بِهَذا الامتحان وَفَضلِهِ

محمداً العربي الشَريفَ ابن زَرّوقِ

and congratulating, on this examination and his distinction,

Muhammad al-ʿArabi al-Sharif ibn Zarrouq.

بَقيتَ كَما يَرجو المحبّ وَأَنتَ في

زِيادَةِ عزّ سابقا غَيرَ مَسبوق

May you remain as your loving friend hopes, ever

increasing in honor—always ahead, never surpassed.
