ما اسمٌ إِذا صَحّفتَهُ يا سَيِّدي

عادَ العقولَ وَصادَقَ الأَرواحا

What is a name, my lord, if you misspell it

It makes minds sober and souls truthful

أَمّا إِذا صَحَّفتَهُ وَعَكَستَهُ

وَحَذَفتَ حَرفاً مِنهُ صارَ سِلاحا

But if you misspell it and inverse it

And omit a letter, it becomes a weapon

وَنَظيرُهُ في صَحنِ خَدّ مُعَذّبي

مَهما تَماجَنَ أَو أَدارَ الراحا

And its like in the platter of a tortured cheek

No matter how it changes or turns about

حازَ السِيادَةَ في الحَديثِ وَبَذّهُ

في الغابِ قَرمٌ لا يُرامُ كِفاحا

Has attained mastery in speech and abused it

In the forest a monkey who brooks no fighting

وَحَسِبتَهُ في ص وَالقُرآنَ قَد

أَلفوهُ إِن عَدّوا لاسوسَ صِحاحا

You deemed it in the Quran they compiled it

If they counted the chapters sincere

ضَمَّنتَ ما جا في النَتيجَةِ قَولَها

ما في الضحى أُنساً لَها وَسَماحا

You included what came in the conclusion her saying

There is no intimacy for it in the forenoon or ease

وَاللَهُ يَحرِصُ عِزّكُم وَجَلالَكُم

مَرَّ اللَيالي غُدوَةً وَصَباحا

And Allah covets your glory and majesty

Nights have passed, morning and eve
