She came gracefully at dawn's first light,

Radiant as the full moon in the dark of night.

She greeted me and brought my soul to life,

Reviving this broken heart so full of strife.

I heeded her call after my misgivings,

And with her renewed the bond of peace.

And to greying hair that now dons my face,

I said: Have patience and stay your pace,

Give me but an hour to see the light of day,

That I may glimpse my youth before decay.

Let me see the queen atop her throne,

To ask of the night she left me alone,

The night she brought all those I hold dear,

And happiness that cured my somber fear.

Alas, such a day will never come again,

For time is spent in greed and selfish gain.

That night our minds were freed by song,

Far better than Isaac's gift so strong.

With brothers I conversed, their stars so bright,

    Noble men exuding gentle light.

The pearls of this world, pride of all the land,

Yet humble, bowing heads to God's command.

When shaken, their spears suffice alone,

Without a stab or blood they seize the throne.

With kindness and grace they rule supreme,

No need for sword, beyond all praise they seem.

None more than Hassaan, a sapling of might,

Grandson of the master poet outright.

A youth superior to his every peer,

In study, teaching, books, and commentary.

He reached the highest peak of scholarship grand,

A palm tree sprouting tall out of the sand.

From the purse of verse a prize he withdrew,

Worthy to be weighed against the finest few.

To my weary mind the poem he brought,

    Countering criticism with careful thought.

I remain as you wish, may you stay the same,

And find the strength to withstand critic's aim.
