O you whose sleepless eyes outpaced the dawn’s wakefulness,

Whose tears raced the people’s slumber.

You did not rest all night from an agonizing care,

Until the bright horizon donned its morning clothes.

I have committed no sin, brought you no wrath,

So why are the roads to you barred from me?

Though you have bound it with chains, it is free.

Can the shackled equal the unfettered?

He who pretends love or feigns it,

Then my love for you is true nature.

I know no other, and my love has no taste—

How vile is the food of tasting!

You named me disposition for a longtime love.

Nothing is new if the disposition is not worn.

O you who pretend what is not your true nature

Whose traits are falling short and sweet talk...

Return to the truth, whether you do it or not,

    For pretense comes before nature.

And regarding the news of a recent event,

Only a trusted brother can inform you. So see whom you trust!
