ملك الفُؤادِ وَقد هَجَر
بَدر المَحاسِن مُذ ظَهَر
The king of my heart abandoned me
The full moon of beauty since he appeared
عَذب الرِضاب مهفهف
يَسي المتيم بِالحور
Sweet harmony softly blowing
The yearning breeze moves the maidens
ما حيلَتي في حبه
اِلّا الخُضوع لِما أَمَر
I have no stratagem in his love
Except surrender to his command
مِن مُنجِدي وَجُفونِه
مِنها المُحِب عَلى خَطَر
He protects me, my rescuer
For him the lover is in danger
وَاحيرَتي في حُبِّه
وَاطول شَجوى بِالخَفَر
I'm confused by his love
And I prolong the night vigil in agony
أَشكو الغَرامَ وَيَشتَكي
جِفن تَعَذَّبَ بِالسَهَرِ
I complain of passion and
My eyelids tortured by sleeplessness complain
يا قَلبُ حَسبُكَ ما جَرى
أَحرَقتَ جِسمي بِالشرر
Oh my heart, enough of what has passed
You’ve scorched my body with embers
رامَ الحَبيبُ لَك الضَنا
لَم ذا وَأَنتَ لَهُ مقر
The beloved wished adversity upon you
Why, when you are obedient to him?
لكِن تَعذيب الهَوى
ما لِلشَجِي مِنهُ مَفَر
But the torment of love
Leaves no escape for the passionate
قابَلتَهُ مُتثنيا
ناهيكَ مِن غُصن خَطر
You met him bent over
Let alone a swaying branch
وَرَأَيتَهُ مُتَبَسِّما
كَالبَدر لما أَن سَفَر
And you saw him smiling
Like the full moon when it rose
يا بَدرُ حكمك الهَوى
فَاِحكُم وَنفذ ما أَمَر
Oh full moon, love rules you
So rule, and execute the command
أَلق الوِشاح وَخلني
أَصلي سَعيرا في سَقر
Cast off the veil and leave me
To pray hellfire in hell
وَعن العذار فَلا تَسل
وَلاِنت أَولى من عُذر
Do not ask about excuses
You are more excused than he who excuses himself
وَدَع الظلام عَلى الضيا
وَاِستُر بَطرَتَكَ الغُرر
Leave the darkness over the shine
And cover your dear face
سامَت بِها الثَغر الَّذي
يَفتر عَن غالي الدُرَر
On which settled the mouth that
Parts to reveal the precious pearls
وَاِصدَع بِحُسنِكَ اِفتَخر
تيها بجيدِك وَالطرر
Reveal your beauty and pride yourself
On your neck and your freshness
فَالشَمس تَخجَل عِندَما
تَبدو وَيَستَحي القَمَر
For the sun feels shame when
You appear and the moon feels shy
