لَحظ عَلى الفَتك بيني دائِماً أَبَداً

ما بالُهُ مغربا في كَسرِهِ عمزه

He is always watching me with fierce intent

Why does he tilt westward with his brokenness?

حار النَحاة بِاِعرابِ الجُفونِ وَما

وَفي الكَسائي بِاِقتِناع وَلا حَمزه

The grammarians were confused by the declension of eyelids

And Al-Kisa'i was not convinced, nor did he guess

يا بَدر سَل مِن أَخيكَ البَدرُ مُرحَمَة

وَاِحذَر اِذا جِئتَهُ مِن جِفنِهِ رِمزَه

O full moon, ask your brother the full moon for mercy

And beware if you come to him of the hint in his eyelid
