تِلكَ الدِيارُ لَو أَنَّها تَتَكَلَّمُ
كانَت إِلَيكَ مِنَ البِلى تَتَظَلَّمُ
Those are the dwellings—if only they could speak,
they would complain to you of the ravages of decay.
دَرَسَت مَغانيها وَمَحَّ جَديدُها
بَل عادَ رَسماً رَبعُها وَالمَعلَمُ
Their haunts are effaced, and even their newer parts have worn away;
indeed, their dwelling-ground and landmark have become a mere trace.
لَم يَبقَ مِنها غَيرُ آثارِ الصِبا
وَمَعاهِدٌ يَشجى بِهِنَّ المُغرَمُ
Nothing remains of them but traces of youth
and familiar haunts over which the love-struck one grieves.
