1. عَرَفَت بِالسَلامِ عَينُ الرَقيتِ

    وَأَشارَت بِلحَظِ طَرفٍ مُريبِ

    The eye of the fair one knew peace with greeting

    And hinted with a glance of doubtful look

  2. وَشَكَت لَوعَةَ النَوى بِجُفونٍ

    أَعرَبَت عَن لِسانِ قَلبٍ كَئيبِ

    And complained the anguish of yearning with eyelids

    That expressed the tongue of a sorrowful heart

  3. رُبَّ طَرفٍ يَكونُ أَفصَحَ مِن لَف

    ظٍ وَأَبدى لِمُضمِراتِ القُلوبِ

    Many a glance is more eloquent than speech

    And reveals the secrets of hearts
