1. عصابة من لصوص أمنها خطر

    قد ضجّ منها وريع الجن والبشر

    A gang of thieves, a dangerous one

    The jinn and humans are disturbed by it

  2. ما للعروبة لا تمضي وتسحقها

    هل نالها الياس أم هل نالها الضجر

    Why does Arabism not move forward and crush it

    Did despair befall it or did boredom befall it

  3. أم استنامت إلى وعد تزوّقه

    مثل الفقاقيع لا يبقى لها أثر

    Or did it fall asleep to a promise it fancied

    Like bubbles that leave no trace

  4. لا نفع منها وإن غنت بما وعدت

    فكل نفع لها في طيه الضرر

    It is no use even if it sings what it promised

    All its use is the harm it causes

  5. صنعاء أو جدة المنهوب جدتها

    أو كرخ بغداد أشباه بمن غدروا

    Sanaa or Jeddah, their grandmas were plundered

    Or Karkh Baghdad, like those who betrayed

  6. معاقل المجد في الماضي قد احتضرت

    كأنها لعبة قد ساقها القدر

    The fortresses of glory in the past are dying

    As if destiny made them its plaything

  7. صم الجلاميد أحنى في مقابرها

    ممن أضاعوا حقوق الشعب أو قبروا

    The leaders bowed in their graves

    Of those who wasted the people’s rights or buried them

  8. والأجنبي على علاته رحم

    متى يقاس بهم في شر ما أمروا

    And the foreigner has mercy on his camels

    When will they be equal to them in the worst they ordered

  9. ما بين عات وصعلوك بفطرته

    ومجرم لم يعد حق ولا وطر

    Between a brute by nature

    And a criminal who no longer cares for truth or principles

  10. فوضى بها اندثرت أخلاق من غبنوا

    ومثلها صارت الثروات تندثر

    Chaos in which the morals of the oppressed vanished

    And like it the wealth starts to vanish

  11. الفقر والجهل والأمراض قاطبة

    باتت كنوزا لهم من بعد ما افتقروا

    Poverty, ignorance and diseases in general

    Became treasures for them after they were impoverished

  12. أبعد هذا نصوغ الشعر في طرب

    لمدح حكامهم لو أنهم شعروا

    After this, shall we compose poetry in joy

    To praise their rulers, if only they were poets

  13. أليس في ضرب أعناق لهم أمل

    للمصلحين وفي تدويخهم عبر

    Is there no hope in striking their necks

    For reformers and in humiliating them a lesson

  14. أليس في تركهم كالعث مرزئة

    عمّت فكم دولة تغنو وتحتضر

    Is leaving them like moth-eaten rags

    That spread, so many countries sing and expire

  15. لقد نصحت فعدوا النصح لي سفها

    وكدت أبكي فعدت اليوم أعتذر

    I gave advice but they considered advice foolishness

    I almost cried but today I apologize

  16. وما انادي سوى الشبان في أمم

    لم يبق فيها سواهم بعد مدخر

    And I call upon the youth in nations

    In which only they remain after the stockpile

  17. لعلهم يشعلون النار صاخبة

    يوم الحساب فلا تبقي ولا تذر

    Perhaps they will ignite roaring fire

    On the day of judgement, it spares no one

  18. وعلهم بالدم الغالي لأمتهم

    يروون قدوة من ثاروا ومن ثأروا

    Maybe with the precious blood of their nation

    They will set an example, for those who revolted and sought revenge
