    البلاء ما قد رأينا

    The arrogance that makes every arrogant soul laugh, the lowly became most low

    The meanness that tastes and looks like crimes, we knew its flavor and color

  5. قد حسبناك ثروة أو تراثا

    فوجدنا وشرّ ما قد وجدنا

    If this is your art, then I'm innocent of what you claim is art

  6. الصغار الذي تدهور بالخلق

    فشمنا الصغار معنى وعينا

    Where are you compared to them, you brood of shame, glutted on the oppressed

    Where is your kindness, a mere fig leaf that counts harm as faith?

  7. والغرور الذي تضاحك منه

    كل غر فقد شأى المين مينا

    You spent your life scheming and preaching wickedly, thus wickedness you sought

    Revel in it, for you most deserve disgrace, beyond it you'll find no comfort

  8. والخساسات وهي أشبه بالأدواء

    طعما وبالجنايات لونا

    As for me, I'm but the divinely inspired poet of love and beauty singing

    My idealism embraced the universe and sang, transforming the universe into a new creation

  9. إن يك الفن كل هذا

    فإني لبريء مما تعدون فنا

    Yes, and though it be an embryo, it prevailed in dreams, able and secure

    Future generations will see it as a paradise in our time they yearn for

  10. إن أهلي في كل أرض بها الحق

    عريق وباسمه تتغنى

    Do you think after this I care about the envious and their hatred?

    Or fear your slander, O most wretched of creatures in feeling and mind?

  11. اين أنتم منه جنيت

    زنيمٌ جاحد يشبع المعانين منا

    You forgot your place, O wicked one, so you lost all nobility and weight

  12. أين إحسانكم قلامة ظفر

    أيها الحاسب الإساءة دينا

  13. حظّك العمر في الدسائس والوعظ

    خبيثا فبالخبائث تعنى

  14. فلتهنّأ بها فإنك أولى

    بالمخازي ودونها لا تهنا

  15. وأنا ما أنا سوى الشاعر الملهم

    بالحب والجمال المغنى

  16. ومثاليّتي تناولت الكون فغنى

    وبدل الكون كونا

  17. إي نعم وهو إن يعد جنينا

    ساد في الحلم قادرا واستكنا

  18. ستراه الأجيال في مقبل الدهر

    جنانافي عصرنا تتمنى

  19. أتراني من بعد هذا أبالي

    بالحسود الذي من الحقد جنا

  20. وأخاف الهجاء يا أحقر

    الخلق شعورا واضأل الناس ذهنا

  21. أهملت شأنك الموازين يا فاجر

    حتى عدمت في النبل وزنا

  22. شاعر نافس التعالي بما

    يحكي ويحكي القرود مغنى ومبني
