Buthaina, I do not accept farewell though I would

Accept my blood being shed for you

To Egypt I will go, if I leave you I will die

Yet I have no fortune with the mummies there

So torture me in your company, which is paradise to me

And do not heed any complaints or lamentations

In Egypt they revive the dead with their mummies

But for the likes of me, death is like living in affliction

And where can I go, O beauty?

Does passion’s fickleness towards me lie?

If the world has betrayed me, I remain faithful

To love, like a merciful mother, always

And on Judgement Day, I will find none but you, my loyal one

And nothing but pure love will intercede for me

I live by the faith of love, despite my deprivation

    Reluctantly, until foes make amends

So free me from my torment, my beloved

And do not send me to oblivion, destitute

If the sun sheds its light, not for some fools

And if love revives one who died, anew

    God knows that I

Would sacrifice myself, not one who desires you as a martyr

    Yes, O my Buthaina

For it is shameful to blame me when you are my goddess

Sacrosanct in my heart and its love

The scent of lively blood and dreams of lips

But O Buthaina, my beloved, what is it

That turns your thoughts from my company immediately?

If you wished, I would place poems into my soul

Colored sand, and set them free intoxicated

And they would go to this beauty, or on ships

To Egypt, where the sand is more vibrant and fluttering

And where the Nile's waters flow dancing

Some flirting with others, joyful and free

    O beauty, enough, enough

I save with dreams a love we lost

And how can love be lost in the breast of a lover

Who transcended the meaning of creation, in spirit and light?

And how, when my vow is like the breeze that blew

    Across generations, an eternal hymn?

Have you forgotten that I am the husband of one from whom I will never be deprived

Even if I lived on Mars, atop its mountains?

For its peaks are an example for the woman

And its peaks are most moral with love

I yearn for her, responding to a call

With which the beautiful radiant dawn sang

It was fragrant with the breaths of Egypt and its Nile

And with its precious inspiration shining for us

Beautiful, beautiful, have mercy on me, I

    Suffer from abandonment and regrets

But deprivation is more delicious to my soul

Than shame which no noble nature accepts

Deprivation may create a beautiful soul

Who loved and cared more for beauty

Farewell, my love, here is the sun bidding farewell

And the sorrows of sunset have appeared to me

Farewell, I have nothing left but a yearning

That will accompany me to my death

And I see around me visions of agony

Songs of lament and a voice of madness

Farewell, despair has become my guide

Though it was once my adversary and opponent

Farewell, it is as if we were created for separation

And we are dolls suffering at the hands of a villain

Farewell, my life, and allow me to kiss

A foot whose steps are my paradise

Farewell, before night, for the night is harshness

Even if you are a sun above all beasts

Farewell, my love, I will remain faithful

In spirit to you, like a flower to its tender gardener

For I am nothing but you, whatever turns of fate

Take us in a world with no faith

Farewell, my love, let some of my tears

Be your tears, and dry your precious weeping eyes

Farewell, I have nothing left but the hermitage of sorrow

A consolation. Farewell O my angel and human

Farewell, my life, I will always look

At you in the mirror of the sky, again and again

And I will confide in every beauty that surrounds me

In hopes some meaning in it is hidden from you
