1. ما جاء قبلك للتخليد إنسان

    عنا له الظلم والظلام أو دانوا

    No mortal before you was made immortal

    for opposing injustice and darkness, or was recorded

  2. أو دونت صحف التاريخ معجزة

    كمعجزاتك فيها العقل برهان

    in the pages of history for miracles

    like yours, proven by reason.

  3. ألم تكن أنت في صحراء موحشة

    الواحة السمحة المثلى لمن عانوا

    Were you not in a desolate desert

    the fertile oasis, perfect for the suffering?

  4. ألم تكن أنت في دهماء قاسية

    النجم أضواؤه هدي وعرفان

    Were you not in oppressive gloom

    a star whose light is guidance and wisdom?

  5. ألم تكن أنت محيي الناس مكرمهم

    من بعد ما أغرقوا في الموت أو هانوا

    Were you not the reviver of people, honoring them

    after they were drowned in death or disgraced?

  6. ألم تكن أنت للدنيا معلمها

    حين الخرافة أديان وسلطان

    Were you not the teacher of the world

    when superstition was religion and authority?

  7. ألم تكن أنت للأسرى محررهم

    والأسر والرق مثل الموت ألوان

    Were you not the liberator of prisoners

    when captivity and slavery were like death?

  8. ألم تكن أنت للإنسان حجته

    على الفناء إذا الإنسان إنسان

    Were you not the proof of man

    against oblivion, for man is man?

  9. يا أيها البطل الأميّ عش أبدا

    ذكراك عطر وأضواء وألحان

    O illiterate hero, live forever,

    your memory is perfume, lights and melodies.

  10. إن الزمان الذي نورت طلعته

    من نوره سطعت للخلد أزمان

    The time you enlightened with your birth

    radiated eternal lights for immortality.

  11. لولا تعالميكم اللاتي قد ازدهرت

    مدى العصور لعم الأرض طوفان

    Without your teachings that have flourished

    throughout the ages, a deluge would cover the earth.

  12. والجهل أخطر من إعصار كارثة

    فما سواه لرزء الناس شيطان

    Ignorance is more ruinous than a disaster,

    all else makes people prey for Satan.

  13. ميلادك الحر ميلاد يفوح شذى

    كما يفوح بشعر الحب بستان

    Your free birth spreads a fragrance

    like the scent of flowers in a garden.

  14. قالوا أتنظم شعرا في محبّته

    فالشعر للصادق الإحساس ميزان

    They said, will you compose poetry about loving him?

    For the sincere, poetry is a measure.

  15. وأيّشعر لمثلي كيفما عظمت

    رموزه في الذي نجواه قرآن

    What poetry can I compose, no matter how great,

    whose symbols were revealed in the Quran?

  16. من حرر العقل حين الناس أكثرهم

    دون البهائم والأديان أوثان

    You freed the mind when most people

    were less than beasts, with idols for religion.

  17. من ثار في الناس لا تخشى عقيدته

    إلا الإله فلم يردعه طغيان

    You rebelled for people, your faith fears

    none but God, so no tyranny deterred you.

  18. من علم الناس معنى السلم في زمن

    كان الأعزّ به بطش وعدوان

    You taught people the meaning of peace in an age

    when the strong ruled by force and aggression.

  19. من لقّن الحكمة الشورى بسيرته

    ووزّع الحب فالأعداء إخوان

    Your life taught consultation and wisdom,

    spread love so enemies become brothers.

  20. من رام كل الورى أنصار دعوته

    على المدى واصطفاهم أينما كانوا

    You wanted all people to support your call

    across the land, choosing them wherever they were.

  21. من راض للناس أحلاما لعزتهم

    وبعض إلهامه السامي السبرمان

    You made people dreams of glory

    with some of your noble, lofty inspiration.

  22. ماذا أقول وشعري دون ما ملكت

    نهاي حين جميع الكون آذان

    What can I say, when my poetry falls short

    of what you possessed, while the universe listens?

  23. حسبي قليلي فنزري في جواهره

    من وحي من حبه كنز وديوان

    Let my little be a gem from the treasure

    of your love's revelation, a book and wealth.

  24. في ظله كلنا أبناء ملّته

    فما تتاءت برغم البعد صلبان

    In your shade we are all your nation

    so flags do not divide despite the distance.

  25. وكلنا يوم هذا العيد أمته

    إن العروبة إيمان وأوطان

    Today, your birthday, we are your nation,

    Arabism is faith and homelands.
