أهنت أباك البَرَّ وهو الذي حنا

عليك وأعطاك الذي أنت سائلُ

Homeland I blamed my father for righteousness and he who was gentle

With you and gave you what you ask

وتزعم أني عن عقابك عاجز

وتحسب أني عن ذنوبك غافل

And you claim that I am unable to punish you

And you think I am oblivious to your sins

فواللّه لولا حبه لك لم أدع

عقابك بالسيف الذي أنت حامل

By God, if not for my love for you, I would not have refrained

From punishing you with the sword that you carry

ولكنني ألفيته متجاوزاً

وليس من الإنصاف ما هو فاعل

But I found him forgiving

And what he does is not just

فأمسيت بين الذنب والعفو حائراً

وقد حال ما بيني وبينك حائل

So I was confused between sin and forgiveness

And something came between me and you
