1. رحيل بعزم الفاتحين سعيدُ

    وعَودٌ بمجد الظافرين حميدُ

    A departure with the resolve of conquerors, happy

    And promises of the glory of victors, laudable

  2. طلعت على الوادي الخصيب ودونه

    مواكبُ من آماله ووفود

    You rose over the fertile valley and beyond

    Processions of its hopes and delegations

  3. وسرتَ إلى السودان ترعى غراسه

    وبالثمرات الطيبات تعود

    And you went to Sudan to nurture its saplings

    And with good fruits you will return

  4. تنافس فيك الجوُّ والبرُّ رغبة

    فراق نزولٌ فيهما وصعود

    The desert and the cultivated land compete in longing for you

    A descent in both and an ascent

  5. وتابعك النيلُ الوفيُّ وأومأت

    إليك جسور فوقَه وسدود

    And the loyal Nile followed you

    Bridges over it gestured to you and dams

  6. ومد إليك الساحلان رباهُما

    وحيّاك ريفٌ فيهما وصعيد

    And the two coasts extended to you their upbringing

    And a countryside in them greeted you, and barren land

  7. تعهدتَه مستكملاً خيرَ أهله

    وزار الأوداءَ الكرامَ ودود

    You took care of it, completing the good of its people

    The dignified visited the ailing, in friendship

  8. فكانت وجوه القوم تبيضُّ بهجةً

    بما أنت راجيه لهم ومريد

    So the faces of the people whitened with joy

    With what you wish and want for them

  9. ففي كل نجد في غُدوِّك موسمٌ

    وفي كل سهل في رواحك عيد

    So in every highland your rising is a season

    And in every plain your return is a feast

  10. ولو لم تجئهم طائرَ الركبِ لانثنت

    إليك جبال وانطوت لك بيد

    Even if the messenger of the caravan did not come to them

    Mountains would incline to you and be folded in your hand

  11. حملتَ إليهم من يد المَلِكِ الندى

    وشارفتَ أقصى المُلْكِ وهو مديد

    You carried to them benevolent dew from the hand of the King

    And you reached the furthest extent of the kingdom and it is lasting

  12. وأشهدَهُ فيهم مطافك ما سرى

    إليه به برقٌ وسار بريد

    And you made him witness among them your procession wherever it went

    To it, lightning flashed, and mail circulated

  13. وكادت تعود اليومَ كلُّ قبيلةٍ

    له دولةٌ مما لمصرَ يشيد

    And today almost every tribe

    Has a state from what was built for Egypt

  14. وتمَّ له سلطانُهُ في ربوعهم

    كما ودَّ آباءٌ له وجدود

    And his sultanate in their expanses became complete

    As forefathers had wished for him and ancestors

  15. علائقُ إخوان وأسباب جيرة

    أعادتْ قديمَ العهد وهو جديد

    Bonds of brotherhood and causes of neighborhood

    Restored the ancient covenant and it is new

  16. فهم يرسلون الماء فيضاً مباركاً

    وإنا لحراسٌ له وورود

    For they send abundant blessed water

    While we are its guards and streams

  17. جمعتَ بني الوادي على ما أعزه

    وأكبرَ بيضٌ ما صنعتَ وسود

    You united the people of the valley on what ennobles it

    And magnified the greatest that you built and made pitch black

  18. وجاءتك بالأحزاب نجواك فالتقت

    وما بينها إلا لمصر عهود

    And its parties came to you for your rescue so they met

    And between them only Egypt's pacts

  19. فكل فريق للفريق مؤيِّدٌ

    وكل زعيم للزعيم نديد

    So each group backs the other

    And each leader contends with another

  20. ولم تبتدر بالرأي حتى دعمتَه

    ببأسك في الميدان وهو شديد

    And you did not rush with opinion until you supported it

    With your might in battle and it is severe

  21. فكل مكان فيه حصنٌ ومعقلٌ

    وفي كلِّ فجٍّ قادةٌ وجنود

    So every place has a fortress and refuge

    And in every valley leaders and soldiers

  22. ثبت بواديك المنيع وحوله

    ممالكُ شتّى تلتوي وتميد

    Your impenetrable valley remained firm and around it

    Diverse kingdoms coil and sway

  23. تساوى جميعُ الناس في أزماتها

    فما في مضيق سادةٌ وعبيد

    All people are equal in their crises

    So there are no masters and slaves in distress

  24. إذا ما أتى في الليل وعدٌ مبشِّرٌ

    أتى من نذيرٍ في الصباح وعيد

    If a promising night message comes

    A threatening one comes in the morning

  25. وإن طلعتْ في العالم الشمسُ ساعةً

    تلتها بروقٌ ساعةً ورعود

    And if the sun rises one hour

    Lightning and thunder follow it another hour

  26. فلا طاعة في الأرض إلا لشرِّ ما

    قضتْ بينهم نارٌ به وحديد

    So there is no obedience on earth but to the evil

    That fire and iron decreed between them

  27. تعادوا وما يدرون في الأرض نازعوا

    ليستعمروا أم نازعوا ليبيدوا

    They became hostile without knowing and disputed the land

    Is it to colonize or to dispute and destroy?

  28. وما كنت أدري أن أبناءَ آدمٍ

    نسورٌ وحيتانٌ همُ وأسود

    And I did not know that the sons of Adam

    Are eagles and whales and lions

  29. وقد أصبح الإنسان وهو مثقَّفٌ

    أضرَّ من الشيطان وهو مريد

    And mankind has become cultured

    Yet more harmful than the obstinate devil

  30. وإني لأخشى الحربَ في الأرض كلِّها

    فتسمى وما للعالمين وجود

    And I fear war in the whole earth

    It would be named but the worlds would cease to exist

  31. ومن أوقد النيران في الحيِّ عامداً

    فقد بات للنيران وهو وقود

    And whoever ignites fires in the living intentionally

    Has spent the night for fires while he is fuel

  32. وما الأرضُ للتنكيل والفتكِ مُهِّدَتْ

    ولكنها للعيش وهو رغيد

    And the earth was not prepared for torture and killing

    But it was made for prosperous life

  33. وما خلق اللّه الهواءَ ودونه

    شروط على استنشاقه وقيود

    And God did not create air and below it

    Conditions on inhaling it and restrictions

  34. وما بسط الخلاقُ أرزاق مَعشرٍ

    ليعدوَ جبارٌ عليه عنيد

    And the Creator did not provide sustenance for some

    For a tyrant to deprive them, stubborn

  35. وما ساد شعبٌ بالكريهة والأذى

    ولكنه بالصالحات يسود

    And no people became prosperous by coercion and harm

    But they prospered by good deeds

  36. وإن مواثيقَ الشعوب مرافقٌ

    فما هي كُتْبٌ تنطوي وعقود

    And people's covenants are bindings

    Not documents that fold and contracts

  37. ولو ذهبوا بالرفق في الأرض أصبحتْ

    تمدُّ لهم أطرافَها وتزيد

    And if they went gently on earth it would

    Stretch its edges to them and increase

  38. ولو أمنوا فيها العداوةَ بينهم

    لزالتْ تخومٌ بينهم وحدود

    And if they guaranteed security among themselves

    Borders between them and limits would disappear

  39. ومن أين للعمران هودٌ وصالحٌ

    إذا عبثتْ عادٌ به وثمود

    Where can settlements thrive and prosper

    If Aad and Thamud wreaked havoc

  40. فهل تعدِل الأقدار أم أنا حالم

    وتلك أمانيٌّ خلتْ ووعود

    Am I wrong or am I dreaming?

    And those wishes are gone and promises

  41. فيا رجل الوقت الذي من ضميره

    لمصرَ عليه حاكمٌ وشهيد

    So O man of the time whom Egypt's conscience

    Rules over it as arbiter and martyr

  42. حليفكَ من ساويته وكلاكما

    مفادٌ بما أبرمتماه مفيد

    Your ally who you made equal and both of you

    Are guided by your beneficial treaty

  43. وأنت بما دبَّرته في طريقه

    رقيب على ما في الغيوب عتيد

    And you by what you arranged in his path

    Are watcher over what is determined and ready

  44. وحسبك من فاروق أنك عنده

    لكل صنيع محسن ومجيد

    And it is enough that with Farouq you are

    Every good deed's ennobler and magnificent

  45. وما الحكم إلا عبءُ قومٍ حملتَه

    وأن الذي فوق الوطيد وطيد

    And rule is but the burden of a people you carried

    And the most solid is above the sturdy

  46. وما أنت معتز به اليوم فيهمُ

    وأنت لهم بالنفس فيه تجود

    And you are not proud today of them

    While you generously give your soul to them

  47. ومن ضمن العقبى له من زمانه

    تساوى قريبٌ عنده وبعيد

    And whoever destined the reward for his time

    The near and far are equal to him

  48. وإني لعونُ المصلحين أُجلُّهم

    بشعريَ في الأمصار وهو خلود

    And I am the supporter of reformers, praising them

    With my poetry in realms and it is eternity
