ورابه المطالُ والتسويفُ

وسئمت أغمادَها السيوفُ

The procrastination and delays had gone on too long

And the swords were weary of their sheaths

فافتتح القتال باسم اللّهِ

وقيصر يختال في الملاهي

So the battle was commenced in God's name

While Caesar strutted about in revelry

وشغلته صيحة المستفرصِ

عن نغمةٍ ولذةٍ في المرقصِ

Distracted by the war cries of the emboldened ones

From the tunes and pleasures of the dance halls

وصاح يا للغدر يا للثأرِ

ما كنت أدري أن هذا يجري

And shouted "O the betrayal, O the revenge!"

I did not know this was happening

يا قومي الأبطال لولا ضعفي

جعلت في أول صف زحفي

O my valiant people, if not for my weakness

I would have placed myself in the first rank of the charge

لئن ضعفنا في عباب البحرِ

فسوفَ نقوى في يباب البرِّ

If we were feeble in the depths of the sea

We will be strong on the expanse of the land

وإن مضى الأسطول بالحيتانِ

فالأسد تستعد في الميدانِ

Even if the armada passed with the sea monsters

The lions stand ready on the battlefield

فضيِّقوا بالجند كل فجِّ

وأوقدوا النيران فوق الثلجِ

So constrict the troops at every mountain pass

And ignite the fires atop the snow

وأدبوا هذا العنيد العاتيا

وانتقموا منهُ انتقاماً قاسيا

Subdue this obstinate transgressor

And take severe vengeance upon him

وإن بدا العدوان من حليفهِ

فإننا أقوى على تصريفهِ

If aggression comes from his ally

We are more capable of managing it

وما علينا لو فتحنا الهندا

ثم طردنا القوم منه طردا

It matters not if we conquered India

Then expelled the people from it completely
