1. سلاماً على حصنكم والعلمْ

    ورعياً لندوتكم في الأممْ

    Greetings to your fortress and banner

    And care for your assembly among the nations

  2. سلاماً على ذلك الملتقى

    سلاماً على ذلك المزدحم

    Greetings to that meeting place

    Greetings to that crowded space

  3. ومجداً ليومكمُ في الوجو

    د مقبلة المرتجى والقدم

    And glory to your day in the atmosphere

    Of the hoped for future and destiny

  4. يكفر فيه الزمان الذنوب

    ويرجع من حقكم ما هضم

    In which time forgives sins

    And rights that were usurped are restored

  5. بهذا الرواق وهذا الرواء

    تألف شملكمُ والْتأم

    With this porch and this courtyard

    Your unity is achieved and coalesced

  6. تطوف الوفود به هاتفين

    مطاف الحجيج بذاك الحرم

    Delegations circle it, exclaiming

    Like pilgrims circling that sacred mosque

  7. فما اعتز رمسيس في مثله

    جلالاً ولا قاربته إرم

    Neither Ramesses boasted of its like

    In majesty, nor did the pyramids equal it

  8. فتوح الممالك ما نلتمو

    ه يومكم أم وفاء الذمم

    The conquests of kingdoms never attained

    What you achieved on your day, nor fulfilled pacts

  9. أمانة مستوثق معلنٍ

    لكم من سرائره ما كتم

    A trusted, declared allegiance

    To you from its secrets that which was concealed

  10. لقد أعجب الترك ما قلتمُ

    وأكبر ما تصنعون العجم

    Indeed the Turks admired your words

    And the non-Arabs magnified your deeds

  11. وطارت بأخباره المبرقا

    ت تسبق بالطيبات الديم

    Rumors of it flew on telegrams

    Outpacing good news and blood

  12. عقائد خالدة في القلوبِ

    ثبتم عليها ثبات الهرم

    Enduring beliefs in hearts

    You established, as firm as a pyramid

  13. وأدرك من سن هذا الجها

    د أن الكرامة في المختتم

    And whoever lived to see this endeavor

    Knew that honor comes to one who perseveres

  14. وعاد لقصدكمُ شاهداً

    من ارتاب في قصدكم واتهم

    And one who doubted your purpose returned

    As a witness, having accused and blamed you

  15. وهذا غريمكمُ الملتوي

    تجمّل بعد الأذى واحتشم

    Adorning himself after harming you, and humbling himself

    He undertook his goal frowning

  16. تولى بغايته عابساً

    وعاودها فاتناً فابتسم

    And returned smiling and cheerful

    To what end? Or to what limit

  17. إلى أجل أم إلى منتهى

    مراميه يلزمكم ما التزم

    Do his aspirations obligate you to what you have obliged?

    Will the horizon clear or be struck

  18. وهل ينجلي الأفق أم يرتمي

    بعاصفة بعد هذا النسم

    By a storm after this breeze?

    Had he known the consequences of contention

  19. ولو كان يعرف عقبى النزا

    ع في الحق من زمن لا نحسم

    In truth, in an age we do not determine

    He would offer you what is his

  20. لكم ماله وعليه الذي

    عليكم يخيركم إن قسم

    And what is against you he would leave to your choice, if divided

    Neither can it be said one party was wronged

  21. وليس يقال فريق هفا

    وليس يقال فريق ظلم

    Nor can it be said one party was unjust

    This lament would be lost to Egypt

  22. يضيع على مصر هذا النعي

    م إن لم يكن كل بيت أجم

    If every house were not united

    And I am not reassured or content

  23. وما أنا بالآمن المطمئن

    إلى المستعد الذي لم ينم

    With one who is ready but did not sleep

    I prepare fighters on both paths

  24. أعد المرابط في المسلكين

    ومن ملك المسلكين اقتحم

    And whoever controls both paths, I will confront

    Does the wolf abandon his ways

  25. وهل يترك الذئب عاداته

    وإن لبس الذئب ثوب الغنم

    If the wolf wears sheep's clothing?

    Or spare the sweet thing he craves

  26. ويعفو عن الطيِّب المشتهى

    وما عف عن باليات الرمم

    When he never spared ruinous ruins?

    Can the deaf adder hear

  27. وهل تتناول صم الصخو

    ر أنياب من أثقلته التخم

    The fangs of one weighed down by greed?

    The wickedness of one who trembles

  28. وداهية مرجف بالذي

    تعدّى به غيره فانهزم

    At what he has transgressed against others and retreated

    That which he said is no proof

  29. وليس الذي قاله حجة

    فقد ألف الناس هذا النغم

    People are accustomed to this melody

    The lost may pretend confusion

  30. وقد يتكلف تيه المدل

    لِ من في حشاه الجوى والألم

    Though anxiety and pain fill their minds

    Does he claim your kingdom as his own?

  31. أيزعم ملككم ملكه

    وهول القيامة فيما زعم

    While the horrors of Doomsday, as he claims, await

    Can he seize the pillars

  32. وهل يستطيع اغتصاب الرقا

    ب من بمراس النفوس اصطدم

    Of souls with his spearheads?

    You did not make the aggressor retreat

  33. وما صنعت بالمغير القلا

    ع صنع إبائكمُ والشمم

    As your fathers did, with forbearance and dignity

    You have what you want tomorrow of provisions

  34. لكم ما تشاؤون من أهبة

    غداً وله ما نوى واعتزم

    And he has what he intended and resolved

    Your unity and patience are enough for you

  35. وحسبكمُ شملكم عدة

    وحسبكمُ صبركم معتَصَم

    As your strength and refuge

    Were it not for your stands in the country

  36. ولولا مواقفكم في البلا

    د داهمها الدهر فيما دهم

    It would have been devastated by fate and ruined

    If the sea contained what you do

  37. ولو كان في البحر ما فيكمُ

    على الحق من غيرة لاضطرم

    Of zeal for truth, it would have ignited

    If the lofty mountain bore

  38. ولو حمل الجبل المشمخر

    رُ ما تحملون لمصر انهدم

    What you bear for Egypt, it would have collapsed

    I testify to what the hidden realm contains

  39. وإني لأشهد ما في الغيوب

    لكم وأروم الذي لم يُرَم

    For you, and foresee what has not yet been cast

    Whoever speaks frankly with people will see

  40. ومن صارح القوم في أمسه

    رأى اليوم فرصته فاغتنم

    Today his opportunity, so seize it

    You have a king and minister who

  41. لكم ملك ووزير هما

    ضمان مصيركمُ المحترم

    Guarantee your esteemed destiny

    One has advised as you desired

  42. فهذا بما شئتمُ قد أشار

    وهذا بما شئتمُ قد حكم

    The other ruled as you desired

    The protector has yielded his authority

  43. وأفضى الحمى بمقاليده

    إلى العادل الحر فيما استلم

    To the just and free one who assumed it

    Who took it with confident composure

  44. تناولها باليقين الصبو

    ر لا بالقنوط ولا بالسأم

    Not despair or fatigue

    How excellent is pardon from one able

  45. وما أحسن العفو من قادر

    إذا ما اشتفى حاقد وانتقم

    When a hater has been sated and avenged

    The bully of the land will fade away

  46. سيجلو عن الأرض جبّارها

    ويلبث فيها كريم الشيم

    And the generous of manner will remain

    There is no power save for reformers

  47. ولا دولة لسوى المصلحين

    ولا ملك إلا لأهل الهمم

    No rule but for those with resolve

    I came to the festival of the land

  48. فزعت إلى مهرجان البلاد

    وبي موجعات الضنى والسقم

    Bearing the pains of resentment and illness

    I am none but the companion who

  49. وما أنا إلا الرفيق الذي

    وفى بمواثيقه والقسم

    Kept pacts and oaths

    I came with chivalry in my endeavor

  50. أتى بالمروءة فيما سعى

    وأقبل بالوحي فيما نظم

    And arrived with revelation in what I composed

    Coming and going in the season of discourse

  51. يروح ويغدو بفصل الخطاب

    عفيف اللسان طهور القلم

    Of decent tongue and pure pen
