عنيت بحزبك حتى اكتملْ

وسرت بركبك حتى وصلْ

I was loyal to your party until it was fulfilled

And I walked in your path until it led to the goal

وجئت الرفاق بفضل الخطاب

وأشهدتهم ثمرات العمل

And I came with comrades by the grace of your speech

And I witnessed for them the fruits of deed

وحملت كل أخ عبئه

وأنت المعين على ما حمل

And I carried with each brother his burden

While you were the helper in what was carried

ومن طاف حولك فهو الرشيد

ومن جد خلفك فهو البطل

And whoever circled around you is the right-guided one

And whoever strived behind you is the hero

ومن كان إيمانه زاده

تنقل بين يديه الجبل

And whoever's faith was his provision

Could move mountains in his hands

يكابر في فضلك الخارجون

عليك وقد أكبرتك الدول

The dissenters stubbornly resist your superiority

Though you were made great by the states

وقد كاد يطغي عليهم نداك

ويشملهم بعد فيما شمل

And your might had nearly overwhelmed them

And included them in what it included

فمالهمُ وثقوا بالغري

مِ وهو على مطله لم يزل

So what is with them, they trusted the stranger

While he is still peering from his lookout

يعدون من جانب المعرضين

رسول الرضى كل ضيف نزل

They count those who turn away

As envoys of consent, every guest who lodged

ويرجون بالمخزيات السبيل

إلى الحكم وهو مكان العلل

And they hope through vile means for a way

To rule, which is the place of defects

وما هم سوى عقبات الزما

ن أخليته منهمُ فاعتدل

And they are but obstacles of time

I rid it of them, so it straightened

تفانوا وما ملكوا موعداً

لأمر ولا لوفاء أجل

They perished and did not own a promised time

For a matter or for the fulfillment of a term

وقاضوا زمانك وهو البريء

وألقوا عليه ذنوب الأول

And they spent your time, and it is the innocent one

And cast upon it the sins of the first ones

وترجِفُ صحْفُهم بالوعيد

وما هو إلا الجوى والوجل

And their pages tremble with threats

Yet it is nothing but delusion and terror

وما هي إلا بقايا اليمي

ن هاموا بها في بقايا الطلل

And they are but ruins of the right

They wandered among ruins in the remnants of traces

وقد خجلت مصر مما انتهوا

إليه وما يعرفون الخجل

Egypt was ashamed of what they came to

And they do not know shame

فإن كنت منتظراً نية

تواصَوا بها فهي أخرى الحيل

So if you wait for an intention

They conspired with, it is another of tricks

منعت زعيمهم أن يعي

شَ مما ادعاه ومما انتحل

I prevented their leader from living

From what he claimed and from what he pretended

جنون الرياسة ينتابه

وما في الرياسة غير الفشل

The madness of leadership befalls him

And there is nothing in leadership but failure

ولو يسرتها الليالي له

تجنبها ثانياً واعتزل

And if the nights had made it easy for him

He would have avoided it a second time and withdrawn

وكان خليقاً بترك المجا

لِ وهو شقي به لو عقل

And it was fitting for him to leave the arena

While he was wretched in it, had he been rational

وذنب الحوادث عند الحسو

دِ نيلك منها الذي لم ينل

And the sin of events is, for the envious

Your attainment of them, which he did not attain

وهل في المقادير يغني العتاب

وهل في العيان يفيد الجدل

Does blaming avail against the decrees?

And does arguing benefit what is seen?

وللأمة البيتُ أم للذئاب

تدبر للناس فيه الغيل

Is the house for the nation or for the wolves?

It schemes against people therein harm

وهل لسوى الكيد تلك الصلاة

صلاة المشعوذ بين الهمل

Is that prayer anything but cunning?

The prayer of the sorcerer among the crazed

وهل في المساجد هذا النفاق

وهل في الكنائس ذاك الدجل

Is this hypocrisy in the mosques?

And is that fraud in the churches?

وهل للمحبة هذا العناق

وهل للكرامة تلك القبل

Is this the embrace of love?

And are those the kisses of dignity?

وهل في الدروب يكون الجها

دُ بالهرْج والهَزَجِ المبتذل

Can there be strife in the roads

With rabble rousing and worthless commotion?

ألاعيب يلهو بها في النهار

ولو سترته الدياجي قتل

Tricks to play with during the day

And if the darkness covered him, it would kill

تحديت من جد في بغيه

عليك وأغضيت عمن هزل

I seriously challenged his hatred of you

And ignored whoever jested

وعقبى الأواخر من زمرة ال

غضاب إليك ورُجعى الأُوَل

And the outcome of the late ones from the company

Of wrath is to you, and my first is a return

وإني ابن إقليمِك المطمئن

إلى ما جرى وإلى ما حصل

And I am a son of your secure region

Regarding what transpired and what occurred

وإني نصيرك فيما اعتزمت

قوي اليقين عظيم الأمل

And I am your supporter in what you intended

Strong of conviction, great of hope
