  1. بأية عيد أنت يا عيد عائدٌ

    تفيض تباريحاً لنا أم شمائلا

    With what festival are you a returning festival?

    Overflowing with good tidings for us, or with hopes?

  2. جزعت من الأنباء حتى كأنني

    ألاقي من الأنباء جيشاً مقاتلا

    I was so grieved by the news as if

    I were meeting an army ready for battle.

  3. فهل غادر الليث الرهيب عرينه

    وأسلم أبطال الذمار المعاقلا

    Did the feared lion leave his lair?

    And the brave ones surrender their forts?

  4. وخانت سيوف الفاتحين أكفهم

    وضلت سفين الفاتحين السواحلا

    Did the conquerors' swords betray their palms?

    And the conquerors' ships go astray on the coasts?

  5. وهل بلغ البيتَ الحرامَ حديثُهم

    وهال حجيجاً حوله وقبائلا

    Did their talk reach the Sacred House?

    And alarm the pilgrims around it and the tribes?

  6. وهل علم القبر الكريم بما جرى

    فقد بات مهتز الجوانب سائلا

    Did the Noble Tomb know what happened?

    For its sides trembled asking.

  7. وللشرق أم للغرب أم لهما معاً

    أعد عداة الترك تلك المعاولا

    Was it for the East or the West or both together

    That the Turks' enemies prepared those tools?

  8. أأصبر حتى يسقط العرشُ بينهم

    وتلتهم النيران تلك الخمائلا

    Shall I wait until the throne falls between them

    And those ambitions are consumed by the fires?

  9. حياتي لمغلوبين عانوا مكايداً

    صليبية قبل الوغى وحبائلا

    My life to the oppressed who suffered schemes,

    Crusading, before the uproar and snares.

  10. إذا استنجدوا بالمسلمين تخلَّفوا

    وكم وجدوا من قوم عيسى مخاتلا

    If they sought help from the Muslims, they lagged behind,

    And how many of Jesus' people did they find treacherous!

  11. فيا آل عثمانَ اتِّعاظاً فإنها

    تجاريب أيقظن الشعوب الغوافلا

    So O House of Ottoman, take heed,

    For they are lessons that awakened the heedless nations.

  12. وما الأمم الغلابة اليوم بالخنا

    بآمنةٍ حول الفريسة غائلا

    Today's victorious nations are not kind

    To the prey, prowling around it.

  13. أرى بينها خلفاً أمام تراثكم

    وأسلابِكم يستجمعُ الشرَّ شاملا

    Between them, behind and ahead of your heritage,

    And your booty, I see evil gathering all-inclusively

  14. وكم دولة شبت وشابت وأدبرت

    فهل عاهد الغرب الزمان المداولا

    And how many a state grew up and flourished and declined!

    Did the West make a pact with time to take turns?

  15. عفاء على الدنيا إذا بت لا أرى

    جحافل للإسلام تُردي الجحافلا

    Goodness upon the world, when I do not see

    Armies of Islam overthrowing armies.
