1. ملك كما ترضى وعدلٌ قائمُ

    منك الندى ولك الولاء الدائمُ

    A just king as you please, justice established

    From you the dew, to you eternal loyalty

  2. ولأهلك النجوى وأنت نزيلهم

    ولمصر ما حمل البشير القادم

    And for your family intimate talk, you being their guest

    And for Egypt what the herald brings

  3. يا تالي السلطان إذ جمعتْكما

    في اللّه أعيادٌ له ومواسم

    O successor to the Sultan when both of you are united

    In Allah holidays for Him and seasons

  4. إن الذي يبغي عليك وأنت في

    هذي المكانة لهو باغٍ غارم

    Indeed whoever envies you while you are in

    This position is a resentful loser

  5. أولى بمن عرض الجيوش مدرباً

    أن يُفتدَى وهو المصلي الصائم

    Better for one who presented armies trained

    To be ransomed while he prays and fasts

  6. أحييتَ في رمضان بين ربوعِهم

    للّه ما أحيَت بمكة هاشم

    You revived in the meadows of Ramadan between them

    For Allah what you revived in Mecca, Hashim

  7. وولائم لحماة مصر كأنما

    أنباؤها لعفاة مصر ولائم

    And banquets for Egypt’s defenders as though

    Their news for the chaste of Egypt and banquets

  8. ومظاهر الدين الفضائل والهدى

    ومظاهر الدنيا ندى ومكارم

    And manifestations of religion, virtues, guidance

    And manifestations of life, dew, and nobilities

  9. وتركت في شوارهم الأثر الذي

    أثنى عليه المستشير الحازم

    And you left in their bustle the effect that

    A wise consultant praised

  10. أولى لك الحصن الذي أمددته

    وإن اشتهتك مدائن وعواصم

    Better suited for you is the fortress you supported

    Even if capitals and metropolises desired you

  11. لك فيه جند إن تشأ فضراغم

    ملء البلاد وإن تشأ فقشاعم

    For you in it an army if you want, so be it

    Filling the countries, and if you want, so be it

  12. قالوا عليل قلت مجهوداً بما

    لا تستطيع أعارب وأعاجم

    They said you were ill, I said exerting with what

    Neither Arabs nor foreigners can endure

  13. إن الذي حاط البلاد أحق أن

    يبقى لها وهو الصحيح السالم

    Indeed, the one who surrounded the countries is most deserving

    To remain for them while he is healthy and safe

  14. فاسلك سبيلك في العيون قريرة

    واسكن قلوباً عُدْتَ وهي حوائم

    So go your way with delighted eyes

    And settle hearts you returned while they are ardent

  15. تبعت قطارك وهو قصر سائر

    بعد السفينة وهي طود عائم

    You followed your caravan, it being a travelling palace

    After the ship, it being a towering edifice

  16. حسب الورى شرحاً لما جربت أن

    تلقى وفودَهُمُ وثغرك باسم

    Enough for people an explanation for what you experienced

    To meet their delegations while your grin is smiling

  17. وكلت بالأحكام أكرم حوله

    متعاونون على الصلاح أكارم

    And you tasked with the rulings the most generous around you

    Cooperators on righteousness, the most generous

  18. وزراء مصر ومعلنو برهانها

    إن زاغ جبارٌ وكابر ناقم

    Ministers of Egypt and its evident proof

    If a tyrant deviated and an angry one resisted

  19. ساروا الهوينا راشدين فأدركوا

    ما ليس يدركه الهلوع الهائم

    They went willingly guided so they attained

    What the anxious confused one cannot attain

  20. فإذا هُمُ رَضِيَ الضعيفُ المشتكي

    عنهم فقد غضب القوي الهاجم

    Thus they are satisfied, the weak complainant being

    Pleased with them, for the strong assailant has become angry

  21. يا ابن الذين بنوا لمصر كيانها

    والشرق فوضى والعباد سوائم

    O son of those who established Egypt’s entity

    While the East is chaos and the people restless

  22. أفضوا إليك بأمر مصر وإنه

    بك مستعاد مجدها المتقادم

    They deferred to you Egypt’s command, and it

    Through you its past glory will be restored

  23. توصيك بالميعاد وهو فريضة

    ذكرى مخلدة لهم ومعالم

    Calling you to the appointment which is an obligation

    An immortalized memory for them and landmarks

  24. والقوم أضياف وفوا أو أخلفوا

    وكرامة الأضياف حقٌّ لازم

    And the people are guests, so whether they fulfill or contravene

    And honoring guests is an incumbent right

  25. إن شئت فهي لهم مجال واسع

    أو شئت فهي المأزق المتلاحم

    If you wish then for them a vast opportunity

    Or you wish then it is the tight entanglement

  26. فليُسلموا حكم البلاد لأهلها

    ولهم مشارب جمة ومطاعم

    So let them hand the countries’ rule to its people

    And for them ample drinking places and eateries

  27. وإذا همُ خافوا علينا داهماً

    فبأي بنيان يرد الداهم

    And if they feared for us a sudden raid

    With what edifice can the raider be repelled?

  28. أبقادةٍ هذا لهذا خاذلٌ

    وبأخوة هذا لهذا هازم

    Some are cowardly traitors to others

    And in brotherhood some defeat others

  29. ومطالب تجتاحهن مطالب

    وعزائم تغتالهن عزائم

    And demands that invade them are demands

    And resolves that assassinate them are resolves

  30. فليصنعوا المعروف يذكره لهم

    بعد الجلاء المعشر المتشائم

    So let them do good, those who grieve will mention it

    After the departure, the pessimistic group

  31. وليتركونا نَبنِ في القطرين ما

    شئنا وليس لما بنينا هادم

    And let them leave us to build in the two regions whatever

    We wanted, and none can demolish what we built

  32. قد يفعل الحرُّ الأبي لنفسه

    ما ليس يفعله الأجير الخادم

    Perhaps the free spirited can do for himself

    What an employee servant cannot do

  33. ومن الصواب وقد ملكت نجاتنا

    أن ترقبنَّهمُ وأنت مسالم

    And it is prudent, since our deliverance has empowered you

    That you watch them while you are peaceful

  34. إن الأساليب التي أحسنتها

    لَمدارجٌ ميمونة وسلالم

    Indeed the methods you perfected

    Are blessed steps and staircases

  35. للّه رأيك نائلاً ومنوِّلاً

    ما لا تحاوله قنا وصوارم

    To Allah your opinion attaining and granted

    What arrows and swords cannot attain

  36. ذا بعض عدتك التي أعددتها

    للدهر وهو مروَّع متفاقم

    This is some of your supplies you prepared

    For time, frightening and growing calamitous

  37. لو يصبر الأحرار صبرك مرة

    ما لامهم فيما اشتهوه اللائم

    If the noble could be patient like you once

    No blamer would blame them for what they desired

  38. ولربما اتهم البريء وأبعدت

    عنه الصديقَ دسائس ونمائم

    And perhaps the innocent would be accused and

    The friend driven away by scheming and gossip

  39. إن يسكت الشاكي إليك فطاعة

    لك لا كما سكت المغيظ الواجم

    If the complainant to you stays silent, it is obedience

    To you, not as the resentful angry one stayed silent

  40. لا يُغضبنَّك صائحٌ متعجِّلٌ

    ما أنت مزمعه وما هو زاعم

    Let no impatient screamer anger you

    What you are not intending and he is claiming

  41. ماذا على المشتاق إذ يهتاجه

    لأليفه البرق الذي هو شائم

    What is upon the ardent when his beloved

    Sparks excite him which are offensive?

  42. إن يعلم الشعب الوديع بحقك ال

    أعلى فأنت بحق شعبك عالم

    If the peaceful people know your highest right

    You by the right of your people are a knower

  43. جاء اليقين فلا سبيل لما ادعى

    فيه مريب أو تخيل واهم

    Certainty came so there is no way to what an

    Suspicious or delusional one claimed

  44. من يملك القول المبين فإنه

    لا يحذر الأجناد وهي خضارم

    Who possesses the clear word, he indeed

    Does not worry about armies, though they are violent

  45. وأقرت الصيد الدهاة بحقه

    سيان راض في الدهاة وراغم

    And you acknowledged the predator’s right truthfully

    It is equal, pleased with the predator or coerced

  46. والحق إن لجَّ الدعاة به استوى

    في نفعه متشيِّعٌ ومقاوم

    And the truth, if advocates insist on it, its

    Benefit is equal, whether shiite or opponent

  47. وإذا علت نفس الأبي غلت فلا

    مستأجر لإبائه ومساوم

    And if the free soul transcends, it transcends, so no

    Hired hand for its transcendence and bargaining

  48. والشعب مختار السلام إلى العلى

    سبباً وأسباب الشعوب جرائم

    And the people chose peace to the Most High

    A cause, and people’s causes are crimes

  49. لانت سجاياه كسلسل نيله

    وتحمل الأيام وهي مغارم

    Its traits shone like its Nile’s chain

    Bearing days while they are arduous

  50. لا نال باغ بالأذى حرية

    في الخافقين ولا استقل الآثم

    No aggressor attains freedom in the two horizons

    Nor did the sinner gain independence

  51. إني أرى متنازعين تسوقهم

    عمياً إلى الأمد السحيق سخائم

    I see disputants driven blindly

    To the distant inevitable abyss, evils

  52. دولاً إذا احتربت فإنك آمن

    وإذا هي اصطحبت فإنك غانم

    States, if they warred, then you are secure

    And if they befriended, then you gain

  53. والدهر يكتم حادثاً وأخاف أن

    يتناول الدولات ما هو كاتم

    And time conceals an incident, and I fear

    That what it conceals will afflict states

  54. وخوارج عاشوا على حنق كما

    تسعى عقارب أو تدب أراقم

    And dissidents who lived on resentment like

    Scorpions roaming or snakes crawling

  55. ألفوا الشعاب العوج شائكة كما

    ألفوا الرياح الهوج وهي سمائم

    They were accustomed to winding rugged gorges as they

    Were accustomed to blustering winds, evil omens

  56. بئست حدائق من دماءٍ ريُّها

    ومنازلٌ أحجارهن جماجم

    Evil are gardens watered with blood

    And homes whose building stones are skulls

  57. يا ليت جدك لم يدع متنمراً

    منهم ولم يرع الجزيرة راحم

    Oh, if only your grandfather had not left a tyrannizer

    Of them and did not shepherd the peninsula compassionately

  58. أحزاب مصر إذا رضيت قلادة

    شتى فرائدها وأنت الناظم

    The parties of Egypt, if you accept its various

    Necklaces while you are the orchestrator

  59. والنيل بين يديك يجري سلسلاً

    والعيش رغد في زمانك ناعم

    And the Nile before you flows smoothly

    And living comfortably in your time easy

  60. أتهز يوماً عرشك العالي يد

    وله قلوب المخلصين دعائم

    Does a hand someday shake your high throne

    While sincere hearts are its pillars?

  61. لا مصر واجفة ولا أنصارها

    مستضعفون ولا الخليفة نائم

    Neither acquiescent Egypt nor its supporters

    Are weak, nor is the Caliph sleeping

  62. هذي البلاد المطمئنة كلما

    دهت البلاد زلازل ورواجم

    These tranquil countries whenever

    Countries quaked with tremors and floods

  63. لك أن تكون كما تشاء وحسبها

    أن لا يسوس الملك غيرك حاكم

    You can be as you wish, and it suffices it

    That none but you governs the kingdom
