  1. تعالوا تعالوا قادة الشعب واسمعوا

    عظات النذير الواله المتلهفِ

    Come, come, O leaders of the people, and listen

    To the admonitions of the passionate, caring warner

  2. تخلفت عنكم والعوادي كثيرة

    وما كان عمداً واختياراً تخلُّفي

    I have lagged behind you, though the paths are many

    And my lagging was not intentional, nor my choice

  3. وأنيَ لا أدري لكم أي مذهب

    أسايركم فيه ولا أي موقف

    I know not which creed of yours I should follow

    And join you in, nor which stand I should take

  4. ولم أبك موتى العام منكم لأنني

    سكبت على الأحياء دمعي وما يفي

    I did not weep for the dead of the year among you

    For I shed my tears on the living, which suffices

  5. ولم أر إلا أخوةً في ديارهم

    تعادوا أمام الراصد المتلقف

    I saw only brethren in their abodes

    Who became enemies before the watching pickpocket

  6. وما في اختلاف تظفرون بمصلح

    ولا في ائتلاف تظفرون بمنصف

    You will not gain any interest from differing

    Nor any arbitrator from uniting

  7. وكل فريق يطلب الحكم بالهوى

    ومن يتَّبع حكم الهوى يتعسف

    And each group seeks to rule by whim

    And he who follows whimsical rule is unjust

  8. وهذا يعادي صاحب الأمر دونه

    وهذا من المعزول بالعزل يشتفي

    This one is hostile to the authority without him

    And that one with dismissal is appeased

  9. وليس لكم من عدَّةٍ غير وقفة

    على جدث أو خطبة حول مقصف

    You have no equipment but to stand

    At a grave or deliver a speech around a cafe

  10. وما قيمة الدستور والخلف بينكم

    إذا لم يجمِّع شملكم ويؤلف

    Of what value are the constitution and successor among you

    If they do not unite your ranks and reconcile?

  11. توالت روايات الخصومة حولكم

    فلم تلق إلا مرجفاً بعد مرجف

    The narratives of discord piled around you

    And you met only with more and more agitation

  12. وجاءت أسانيد الدعاوى فلم تكن

    سوى شبهات في مكان مزخرف

    The chains of claims came but they were

    Merely doubts in a decorated place

  13. أترجون أن الشعب وهو معذب

    يرحب بالمخدوع منكم ويحتفي

    Do you hope that the people, while tormented

    Will welcome the deceived one among you and celebrate?

  14. وتبغون إشرافاً على الشعب منكمُ

    وأنتم أحق اليوم منه بمشرف

    And you want supervision over the people from among you

    While today you most deserve a supervisor
