1. يا زعيمَ الأحرار قولاً وفعلا

    عد إلى الحكم محسناً فيه عدلا

    O leader of the free, in word and deed,

    Return to power, making justice prevail.

  2. أمس فارقته جليلاً وقد عا

    ودته للدوام فيه أجلا

    Yesterday you left exalted, and I wished

    You an eternal rule, for you are glorious.

  3. والذي يملك المقاليدَ أعطا

    ك ويا نعمَ من تولى وولى

    He who holds the reins has granted you

    Authority. Blessed is he who assumed it and delegated it.

  4. ظفرت منك منذ عشر ببعض

    مصر واليوم منك تطلب كلا

    I gained some of Egypt thanks to you ten years ago.

    Today I ask for it all from you.

  5. وتسلمتها رسولاً لنعما

    ها اصطفى من صحابة الخير رسلا

    You took it as a messenger for the blessings

    That the Best of the Companions of Goodness chose as messengers.

  6. والذي في شبابه أحسن الأم

    ر أحق السراة بالأمر كهلا

    He who in his youth did the best of deeds

    Is the most deserving of the elderly to lead.

  7. من حديد يداً ملكت ولكن

    ن وراء الحديد قلباً وعقلا

    You have an iron hand but

    Behind the iron is a heart and mind.

  8. بين كلِّ العباد بالحقِّ تقضي

    وترى الطاعةَ الكريمةَ فضلا

    Among all people you judge with truth

    And you see obedient generosity as virtue.

  9. من يجئْ راضياً أراح ومن ول

    لى فعذراً يلقى لديك ومهلا

    Whoever comes satisfied, you comfort. Whoever

    Turns away stubbornly finds with you excuse and respite.

  10. لا يخاف اليمين ناقضها ما

    دام كرهاً عقد اليمين وجهلا

    You do not fear breaking an oath

    As long as you dislike making the oath ignorantly.

  11. ولقد تذهب الخصومة أو تب

    قى وقدر البلادِ أعلى وأغلى

    Disputes either disappear or remain,

    While the country’s destiny is higher and dearer.

  12. أيعود العنادُ يوماً ولم تب

    ق لدعوى المكابرين محلا

    Can stubbornness return someday when no

    Place remains for the claims of the obstinate?

  13. لم تدع دعوة الكرام إلى الل

    ه كفوراً باللّه يعبد عجلا

    You did not leave the honorable people’s call to God

    Ungrateful, worshipping a calf.

  14. ولك الرفقُ بالمصرّ على الطب

    ع عسى تستطيع للطبع نقلا

    You have been gentle with Egypt’s nature

    Hoping to transfer that nature.

  15. ومن الحزم والمروءة حرما

    نك من ليس للرعاية أهلا

    Out of wisdom and chivalry, your care

    Has deprived those unfit to lead.

  16. ولقد يصبحُ الأقلُ كثيراً

    ولقد يصبحُ الكثيرُ أقلا

    The few may become many,

    And the many may become few.

  17. ما لقتلى الجهاد باتوا وهم لل

    شهوات الكريهة اليوم قتلى

    The martyrs of jihad passed away while today

    They are martyrs to vile passions.

  18. شيعةٌ للزعيم في يد هاما

    ن استغلت شيطانه واستغلا

    A leader’s supporters are in the grip of the reckless

    Who exploited their devil and gained power.

  19. صنمٌ غرّ عابديه وغرُّو

    ه وكانت تلك العبادة هزلا

    An idol deceived its worshippers and they were

    Deceived, making that worship a mockery.

  20. وتجنوا على الذي يهب العز

    زَ فلاقوا منه هواناً وذلا

    They betrayed the one who grants might

    And so they met from him disgrace and humiliation.

  21. والذي أدركوه في غفلةِ الأي

    يامِ فروا به طعاماً معلا

    In the heedlessness of days they attacked him,

    Then fled from him as birds startled from their nest.

  22. ليس من يترك المناصب طوعاً

    مثل من يترك المناصبَ عزلا

    One who willingly leaves office

    Is not like one forced from office.

  23. أعلى نفسه مضى أم على الأق

    دار يلقى الطريد ناراً وغلا

    Whether he raised himself or met

    Disgrace, the exiled one faces fire and embers.

  24. قد يجنُّ المغيظُ حتى تراه

    وهو شيخٌ من غيظه صار طفلا

    Anger may accumulate until you see

    Him old yet anger made him a child.

  25. حسبهم دولة الزمان حسيباً

    وكفاهم لما أساءوا سجلا

    Their protector against what they did wrong

    Was the march of time, their register.

  26. فيك لاموا من اصطفاك وأغروا

    بك من خانهم فكانوا أضلا

    They blamed you for choosing them, and fooled

    Those they betrayed, becoming more lost.

  27. لو أصابوا لتابعوك وقد أع

    رض عنهم شفيعهم وتخلى

    Had they succeeded, they would have followed you. But you

    Forgave them, while their mediator turned away.

  28. انتهت عندك الرواية بالعق

    بى وأنت الأتم دوراً وفصلا

    The story ended with you being wise,

    You who played the perfect, complete role.

  29. فامض في الملك باسم فاروق وارفع

    بين عرشيهِ شعبه المستقلا

    March on in power like Al-Farooq and raise

    Your independent people from the throne.
