تعهَّدِ الملك أدناه وأقصاهُ

وامْدُد من الحكم أوفاه وأبقاهُ

The King's oath to serve his realm from end to end

And extend the rule with fairness to no end

واشهد من الشعب صدقَ الحبِّ يعلنه

فيما تراه وتلقاه وترضاه

And witness the people's truthful love they express

In what you see, receive, and are pleased to address

واشرح له السبْلَ فيما أنت صانعُهُ

إلى مداه كما يهوى وعقباه

Explain the path wherever you are its maker

To its extent as desired and traced back

واحمل إلى الريف في أغنى مواسمه

تحية الملك الأعلى ونعماه

And carry to the countryside in its richest seasons

The King's highest regards and blessings

لكل ناحية حق عليك وقد

ذكرتَ حقَّ القرى في البرِّ ترعاه

Each region has a right over you, and you

Have remembered villages' rights with care not few

وزُرتَ في حقله الفلاحَ تكرمه

فزاره اليسرُ والمعروفُ والجاه

You visited the farmer in his field with grace

So ease, favor, and glory visited his place

أكلت من زاده السهلِ البسيطِ فما

ألذَّه لك مأكولاً وأشهاه

You ate his plain harvest and found it

Most delicious food that gratified and satiated

وقد شربتَ من الماء المحيط به

شهد النعيم المصفَّى أو حُميَّاه

And drank from the water enveloping it

The distilled nectar of bliss or fresh rain poured

تواضعٌ منك هذا في علاك له

وأنه بك نضرُ الوجه تيَّاه

This humility from you in your loftiness to it

Its face blooms for you give it radiance and light

تَعوَّدَ الشمس يلقى في أشعَّتها

وفي الهواء النقيِّ الطلق محياه

Accustomed to the sunshine in its rays to meet

And in the open, pure air its breath and life

وصحَّ جسماً وعقلاً في الحياة فما

يَعنيه في القصر أو في الكوخ مأواه

Its body and mind in life grew hale and hearty

Caring not whether palace or hut be its party

عفٌّ يعاف من الدنيا زخارفَها

وأن في الفأس والمحراث دنياه

Contentment satisfying worldly façades denies

And that in axe and plow his world and treasure lies

يعطي الحمى يده مستثمراً وإذا

دعاه بالروح يوم الروع لباه

He gives his hand fever working invested

And when called by the soul on day of rest he's blessed

وربما استنزل الأمطار فيه إذا

لم يجر في الواد بين النيل مجراه

And sometimes draws down rains when course

Through valley midst the Nile doesn't run its course

لم تشك حَرَّاً ولا برداً طبيعتُه

فصيفه في نواحيه كمشتاه

Never doubting heat or cold its nature

Its summer in its climes like its winter

ومن تحمّل عبأً وهو يأمله

أفاده كلُّ ما في الأرض يلقاه

He who bears a burden hoping for its gain

Benefits from all the earth hosts he'll obtain

يا خادم القوم في كبرى وَزارته

بما قضى من هدى أحكامه اللّه

O people's servant in high office holding fast

To guidance of God's rulings first and last

بك استعانوا كراماً واستعنت بهم

دأب الممكن يمناه بيسراه

Through you nobles assisted and I through them

The pace of possible assisted me and them

وجئت إقليميَ الرحبَ الخصيبَ وفي

خير المرافق منه ما تمناه

And I came to my spacious, fertile region

With the best company from it I envisioned

وسرتَ بين بنيه الزارعين ضحىً

كأنهم لك أندادٌ وأشباه

You walked among its farmers in morn's first light

As though they were your equals and recite

فإن وضعت أساسَ اليوم من حجر

فللنفائس والآلاء مبناه

If foundation you lay today of stone

It is for gems and gifts to build upon

أثنت عليك ثناءَ الناس أرضُهُمُ

وللبلاد كما للناس أفواه

The land where they dwell sings your praises aloud

As people speak so countries have mouths

وشاهد الركبَ قلبي وهو مقتربٌ

منّي فسايره قلبي وجاراه

My heart witnessed the caravan when related

To me so my heart accompanied and celebrated

إن لم يجئك من الإقليم شاعرُه

جاءت مطافك نجواه وذكراه

If from the region no poet comes to you

Your travels' prose and mention it will do

يهدي إليك سناءً من مدائحه

ملءَ الزمان وعطراً من سجاياه

Sending you from his praises glory's clime

The age's perfume and most fragrant rhyme

وما استطاع إلى ملقاك مرحلة

وعلة الجسم تمشي في بقاياه

But who can't journey to find where you sit

As body's weakness walks his remnants yet

عذر المحب استفزته صبابته

إلى الحبيب فلم تحمله ساقاه

The lover's excuse passion stirred in him

To the beloved, but legs refused to carry him

وإن فضلك في قومي وفي وطني

خير الدواء لعلّاتي وأشفاه

For my people and homeland your grace indeed

Is best remedy for all illnesses to lead
