1. كانت بلادك في نواك محولا

    فارجع إليها آملاً مأمولا

    Your homeland was once a sanctuary,

    So return to it with hope and aspiration.

  2. في الداء طبّاً في الكريهة سلوةً

    في الخوف أمناً في العثار مقيلا

    It is a cure in sickness, solace in adversity,

    Security in fear, support in stumbling.

  3. لولا جهادك راحلاً متنقِّلاً

    لشكت إليك تنقُّلاً ورحيلا

    If not for your struggle traveling restless,

    I would have complained to you of wandering and travel.

  4. تغدو تبوعاً للخليفة مخلصاً

    وتروح بالهمم العلى مشغولا

    You rise early to serve the Caliph dutifully,

    And you are preoccupied with the highest aspirations.

  5. هل بعد ما حادثته وشهدته

    جذلان يحسبه العداة عليلا

    After what you have experienced and witnessed,

    Do you think the enemies consider it feeble?

  6. هبه مريضاً كان أياماً أما

    كان اللقاء على الشفاء دليلا

    They claimed he was ill for days, but

    The meeting for recovery was proof.

  7. صف للرعية كيف مَكَّنَ عرشَهُ

    في المشرقين وشيَّد الأسطولا

    Describe to the masses how he strengthened his throne

    In the two easts and erected the fleet,

  8. وانصح عباداً يزعمون الشر في

    أن يستعيد إلى الفرات النيلا

    And advise servants who claim evil

    To restore the Euphrates to the Nile.

  9. هم أرجفوا بالحرب يبتدرونها

    وتوقعوا التدمير والتقتيلا

    They quaked with war, anticipating it

    And expected devastation and murder.

  10. وتسلموا عدد الدفاع كأنما

    أضحى حماك إليهم موكولا

    They assumed the number of defenses as if

    Your protection to them was entrusted.

  11. واستظهروا بالزاخرين ليقطعا

    بين الضمائر والهوى ويحولا

    And they sought help from the boastful ones to sever

    Between consciences, passions and transform them.

  12. قالوا استعان بنا على سلطانه

    من أن يمد يداً إليه طولى

    They said, "He has sought our help against his sultan

    Lest he extend a hand to it elongated."

  13. هل تستغيث بضيفك المملول من

    أهليك والمولى الأعز قبيلا

    Will you seek help from your guest laden with gifts

    And the Most High Lord is more noble?

  14. ويجرد الترك الحسام لموقع

    لا يغنينَّ الظافرين فتيلا

    The Turks bare the sword for the battle site

    Which will not benefit the victors at all

  15. إن لم تجئْ بهمُ إليك سفينة

    جعلوا جسورهمُ قنا ونصولا

    If they do not bring ships to you

    They have made their bridges channels and paths.

  16. هل في التآلف والتعاون فتنة

    تجتاح جاراً أو تنال نزيلا

    Is there sedition in harmony and cooperation

    That would overwhelm a neighbor or guest?

  17. ما بال وهاب الأمان كما ادعى

    أمسى يرى في كل فجٍّ غولا

    How is the granter of security as he claimed

    Now seeing a rebel in every crevice?

  18. ولقد يصر على التمادي لو رأى

    من قومه الإرجاف والتهويلا

    He would persist in transgression if he saw

    From his people provocation and intimidation,

  19. أو كان يأمن عصبةً عبسوا له

    شهداء يأبون العناد عدولا

    Or if he felt secure from a gang who frowned at him

    Witnesses refusing stubbornness justly.

  20. ومهذباً مستشرقاً متطوِّعاً

    يقظان للبلد الأمين خليلا

    And a civilized orientalist volunteer

    Alert to the safe country a sincere friend.

  21. وهو القَئُولُ الأريحيُّ وليتَه

    كسواه يقدر أن يكون فعولا

    He is the gentle, calm one, if only

    They would appoint him able to be effective.

  22. لولا اتكال الصابرين على غد

    ودّوا الرجوع إلى الليالي الأولى

    If not for the patience of the steadfast on tomorrow,

    They would have wished return to the first nights.

  23. لم يعذروا الحكم المجرِّبَ ظالماً

    ولطالما عذروا الظلوم جهولا

    They would not excuse the experienced ruler as unjust

    Though they often excused the ignorant unjust.

  24. ومن الحياة شعورهم بجراحهم

    يشكون حتى تنتهي وتزولا

    From life their awareness of their wounds

    They complain until it ends and passes.

  25. ومن القوى تهيامهم في ليلهم

    يتلمسون نهارك المصقولا

    From power their delirium in their night

    They grope for your polished day.

  26. ولربما ملأوا البلاد مواسماً

    من بعد ما ملأوا البلاد عويلا

    Perhaps they filled the country with seasons

    After filling the country with wailing.

  27. لا يفزعون إلى الغريب وإن رأوا

    سيف القريب عليهم مسلولا

    They are not startled by the stranger, even if they saw

    The sword of the relative bared against them.

  28. اللّه أدَّبنا بأكبر خلقه

    فعلاً وأنفذ في الممالك قيلا

    God has disciplined us with His greatest creation

    In deed and sent in the kingdoms a rumor.

  29. متباينون همُ ونحنُ شرائعاً

    وطبائعاً ومنازعاً وأصولا

    They and we differ in laws,

    Natures, disputes and principles.

  30. كِلْهُمْ إلى الدهر القدير لعلنا

    لا نعدم التغيير والتبديلا

    Entrust them all to the Almighty Fate so that we

    Do not lack change and transformation.

  31. وإذا هممت بنا إلى استقلالنا

    فالحزم أن لا نطلب التعجيلا

    And if you intended for our independence,

    Prudence is not to seek haste.

  32. ومن المحال نجاتنا إن لم نكن

    أرقى نفوساً منهم وعقولا

    It is impossible for our salvation if we are not

    Nobler in souls and minds than them.

  33. ولقد تطلعنا إليها شُمَّخاً

    فارفع على الأجيال هذا الجيلا

    And we have aspired to it proudly,

    So elevate over generations this generation.

  34. هي غاية الآمال شتى سبْلُها

    طوبى لمن جعل السلام سبيلا

    It is the goal of diverse hopes, its paths are blessed,

    Felicity to one who made peace a path.

  35. يا حسنهم إذ ينجلون ولا نرى

    إلا الوداد إليهم موصولا

    How good they are when they become friendly and we see

    Nothing but affection connected to them.

  36. إن يذكروا طاعاتنا نذكر لهم

    درساً تلقَّتْه البلاد جليلا

    If they mention our obedience, we mention to them

    A lesson the country received great.
