1. عاود جهادكَ مقضيَّ المشيئاتِ

    واستكمل النصر سلميَّ الفتوحاتِ

    Resume your jihad, executor of destinies,

    And complete the victory, peaceful conquests.

  2. برئتَ من علة طالت وطال بما

    صبرت أجرُك في ماضٍ وفي آت

    You are cleared of an ailment that was prolonged, so

    Your reward in the past and future for your patience.

  3. فجئت في صحة للخير دائمة

    أصح قولاً وأعمالاً ونيات

    You have come back in health for constant goodness,

    Sounder in speech, deeds and intentions.

  4. وما تزال تداوي ما بطائفة

    مخدوعة من تَعلّات وعلات

    You still treat what an deluded faction has

    Of arrogance and pretensions.

  5. توعَّدوا بانتقاضٍ أو بمؤتمر

    فهل مضى يوم تأديب المحاماة

    They threatened a coup or a conference,

    So has the day come for trying advocates?

  6. يمهدون بتمويهٍ لتبرئةٍ

    ويدفعون إليها بالنداءات

    They pave the way with pretexts for acquittals

    And make appeals through announcements.

  7. إذا رووا عنك ما الرائي يكذبه

    فما يضرك من تلك الروايات

    If they report about you what the seer would deny,

    Their narratives cannot harm you.

  8. فاترك صحائفهم تجلو مواقفهم

    فإنها بهِمُ شرُّ السعايات

    So leave their papers to reveal their stances,

    For they are, because of them, the worst intrigues.

  9. يطالبونك بالصعب العسير على

    ما أسلفوا من سياسات وثورات

    They ask you for the difficult, impossible

    After their policies and revolutions.

  10. وما لهم يضعون الشوك في سبلٍ

    رأيتها المستقيمات الأمينات

    They have no right to place thorns in smooth roads

    That you saw as the most straightforward and honest.

  11. فإن همُ حكموا عن هين عجزوا

    وإن خلوا أرجفوا بالمستحيلات

    If they judge ineptly they are helpless,

    And if they leave it they babble impossible things.

  12. أمن طلابهم الموت الزؤام إلى

    طلاب حكم وسلطان وثارات

    Do they want for their students death and distress until

    Students of authority, power and anarchy?

  13. وهل يريدون في مجرى الدماء لهم

    وفي مَجرِّ الضحايا المهرجانات

    Do they want for the course of blood and victims

    Festivals and celebrations?

  14. وبعد ما كذبوا الجهال ما وعدوا

    لم يبرحوا يستغلون الجهالات

    After they lied to the ignorant of what they promised

    They persisted in exploiting the ignorant.

  15. فوضى أقلية تودي بمملكة

    فكيف تترك فوضى الأكثريات

    The chaos of a minority that ruins a kingdom,

    So how can you allow the chaos of majorities?

  16. لا رأى في الأمر إلا للمحيط به

    ولا مكانة إلا للكفايات

    There is no perspective in the matter but for who masters it,

    No prestige but for the competent.

  17. وما النيابة والشورى لمتخذٍ

    للعيش من شيع الأهواء آلات

    Parliament and consultation are not for whoever takes them

    As tools for living off fanning passions.

  18. أمانة عندك الدستور تحفظه

    وأنت أقوى على حفظ الأمانات

    The constitution you have is trustworthy,

    And you are most capable of keeping trusts.

  19. فإن تشأ فأداء لا أوان له

    وإن تشأ فأداء بعد ساعات

    If you wish, fulfil it, no time for that,

    And if you wish, fulfil it after some time.

  20. تريده جامعاً للقوم شملهم

    لا للنزاع وتفريق الجماعات

    You want it to unite the nation and unify them,

    Not for discord and dividing groups.

  21. فليتق اللّه فيه طالبوه فما

    طلابه بأباطيل وسوءات

    So let those requesting it fear God, for their request

    Is with futile and evil things.

  22. أشفقتُ مما جنته منهمُ فئة

    وجئت أطلب في الجاني الشفاعات

    I worry about what a group has harvested from it,

    And come to ask for intercession for the perpetrator.

  23. عسى لهم في الذي أبدوه من عنت

    عذر لديك وستر للخفيّات

    Perhaps for what they showed of enmity,

    There are excuses for you and veils for the hidden things.

  24. فيهم قريبي وجاري والشريك ولي

    على جميعهمُ حق الرعايات

    Among them are my family, neighbor and partner,

    For all of them the rights of protection.

  25. وإن تكن فدية منهم وتضحية

    ترضيك عنهم ففي ترك العداوات

    If ransom from them and sacrifice

    Would satisfy you against them, then ending enmity.

  26. لقد أخذت من الدنيا حقائقها

    وما أراحك أصحاب الخيالات

    You have taken the realities of life,

    Not comforted by the people of imagination.

  27. ولو يغالون في خير أعَنْتَهُمُ

    على التعجُّل فيه والمقالات

    Had they been earnest in good you would have

    Helped hasten it and the sayings.

  28. يكابر الرهط في رأيي ومعتقدي

    وهل يكابر يوماً في مروءاتي

    The rabble persists in opposing my opinion and belief,

    But do they ever oppose my integrity?

  29. حمل الجبال على الإنسان أهون من

    حمل الأذى وجدال المخطئ العاتي

    Bearing mountains is easier for man

    Than bearing harm and the arguing of the unjust aggressor.

  30. ليت القصائد إذ أمضيتها نذراً

    في كلِّ ناحيةٍ عادت بشارات

    I wish that when I finish these poems as a vow

    In every direction they bring glad tidings back.

  31. وليتني بعد ما أحكمتها ذمماً

    للجانبين توليت السفارات

    And I wish that after I have judged them,

    I then took up diplomacy for both sides.

  32. ولو ملكت جعلت الناس كلهمُ

    ملائكاً وجميع الأرض جنات

    And if I had power I would make all people

    Angels and all the earth gardens.

  33. يا خادم الشعب في حزب بلغت به

    كبرى الرياسة موفور الكرامات

    O servant of the people in a party you have reached

    The greatest leadership, abundant in miracles.

  34. والمخلص الحر للتاج الذي ظفرت

    بك الوزارة منه بالضمانات

    The honest free man for the crown which the ministry

    Has secured guarantees from you.

  35. ومحكم النيل تحميه وتحرسه

    ضخم القناطر فياض الخزانات

    Who firmly protects and guards the Nile,

    With massive bridges, abundant reservoirs.

  36. فما تخيفك نقصاناً موارده

    ولا يخيفك طغيان الزيادات

    So neither diminishing its resources frighten you

    Nor the excess of flooding frightens you.

  37. وللمهندس في المجرى تصرُّفه

    وللسماء ينابيع البحيرات

    The engineer has his disposal in the course,

    And the sky has the springs of lakes.

  38. تناول الشرق من واديك قدوته

    حكومة وتقاليداً وعادات

    The East has taken its example from your valley,

    Government, traditions and customs.

  39. وقرَّبت بين أهليه عواطفهم

    قبل اقتراب المراسي والمطارات

    And you brought close between its people their affections

    Before the nearing of ports and airports.

  40. بدأت بالفرس والأفغان ممتلكاً

    قلوبهم بالمواثيق المصونات

    You began with the Persians and Afghans, winning

    Their hearts with protected covenants.

  41. وعوض الود حراً كل مملكة

    عمالها من حقوق وامتيازات

    And instead of affection you gave every kingdom

    For its workers rights and privileges.

  42. ولان في الأرض جبارٌ يساورها

    وقد أمدك جبار السموات

    No tyrant in the land bothers it,

    When the Almighty of the heavens supports you.

  43. ما زلت ترتاضه حتى اطمأن فإن

    أرضيته مرة أرضاك مرات

    You still placate him until he is reassured, for

    If you please him once, you please him many times.

  44. إن كان لا بد من عهد عليك له

    فالعهد أفضل من تلك المداراة

    If an agreement with him is inevitable for you

    Then agreement is better than that appeasement.

  45. فما تضيق بك الدنيا غداً وبه

    بعد المساواة فيها والمصافاة

    So the world will not be too narrow for you and him

    After equality in it and rapprochement.

  46. سبقت ظني إلى ما ودَّه وطني

    وأمتي وتجاوزت النبوّات

    You exceeded my expectations for what my homeland wanted

    And my nation, and went beyond prophecies.

  47. لتفصلنَّ غنياً في قضيتها

    عن البراهين فيها والشهادات

    You will judge richly regarding its issue,

    Beyond proofs and testimonies.

  48. وإنك المثل الأعلى لملتمسٍ

    وسائلاً وأمانيّاً وغايات

    You are the highest ideal for one seeking

    Means, hopes and goals.
