    وَجْتُ وبيتي يعمرُ

    I wish I had married

    And my home was inhabited

    في راحة تشتهرُ

    So I could enjoy my wife

    In renowned comfort

  3. يغبط عيشي كل زو

    ج لهنائي يبصر

    Every husband would envy my life seeing my bliss

    And that I am truthful

  4. وأن أكون صادقاً

    فيما به أعتذر

    In what I apologize for

    To her, so I am not forced upon deception and fraud

  5. لها فلا على الريا

    ء والخداع أُجبَر

    And that I am faithful

    With no malice hidden against her

  6. وأن أكون آمناً

    كيداً لها يستتر

    No doubt in my trust

    Valuing her chastity

  7. لا ريبة في ثقتي

    بصونها تؤثِّر

    This virtuous kingdom must exist

    That which I see its splendid vision in my dreams

  8. لا بد أن يوجد ه

    ذا الملك المطهر

    I have unwavering confidence

    In it, hopeful wishes bare

  9. هذا الذي أرى له

    في الحلم طيفاً يبهر

    I await everlasting affection

    And a fruitful promise from it

  10. لي ثقة يحصرها

    فيه رجاء مسفر

    O maiden, I indeed love you the most

    So welcome me in your barren abode

  11. أرقب وداً دائماً

    منه وعهداً يثمر

    And grace my life’s horizon with dazzling light

    I wanted a wife like no other

  12. أيتها العذراء إن

    ني فيك صب أكبر

    That’s why I remain unwed waiting

    Not arrogant, boastful of herself

  13. فأقبلي ليزدهي

    فيك مكاني المقفر

    Making a fuss in every matter aflame

    Or lost in groundless jealousy

  14. وذَهِّبي أُفْقَ حيا

    تي بضياء يسحر

    With no thoughts or reason

    Jealousy stems from bitter, lethal hatred

  15. إني أردت زوجة

    بمثلها لا أظفر

    Not wasteful, pilfering my savings

    Not pretentious, shaming and vexing me

  16. لأجل هذا لا أزا

    ل عازباً أنتظر

    Wanting to leave a mark in every art

    Not a preacher, frightening and warning me

  17. لا أبتغي مغرورة

    بنفسها تفتخر

    Lecturing people, gossiping and composing poems

    Not a loud chatterbox

  18. تجعل في كل فؤا

    د لوعة تستعر

    Proclaiming everything out loud

    That's why I remain unwed waiting

  19. أو ذات وهمٍ في سوى ال

    غيرة لا تُفَكِّرُ

    I want to keep authority for myself that's irresistible

    Disappear from home as desire dictates, I come and go

  20. فإنما الغيرة لل

    حقد المميت مصدر

    My soul unrestrained by refusal and disobedience

    I hope for a woman of agreeable traits

  21. لا أبتغي سلابة

    تنهب ما أدخر

    Beautiful, her image lingering in my heart

    Her looks and manners equal

  22. لا أبتغي عالمة

    تحرجني وتضجر

    She loves what I love

    Rejects what I reject

  23. تريد أن يبقى لها

    في كل فن أثر

    Avoids what bores me and I resent

    And her eyes reflect her heart's purity

  24. لا أبتغي واعظة

    ترهبني وتنذر

    No pretense in her noble thoughts

    Accompanying me in life's every path and road

  25. تخطب في الناس وتر

    وى عنهم وتشعر

    And I'm pleased that she captures my heart

    I think I won't find the one I sought

  26. لا أبتغي ثرثارة

    بكل شيء تجهر

    That's why I remain unwed waiting

    I fear my wife would betray and deceive me

  27. لأجل هذا لا أزا

    Harboring malice against me and plotting my death

    If I was combatting fierce enemies, I would be patient

  28. أريد أن أُبقي لنف

    سي سلطة لا تقهر

    But I worry for the soul that cannot endure

    Thus I decided that

    شاء الهوى وأحضر

    For my health, it's best to abstain

  30. لا تنتهي نفسي بما

    تأبى ولا تأتمر

    I've seen the extreme hardship

    Of the many who married

  31. إنِّيَ أرجو امرأة

    ذات صفات تشكر

    I hate to see what

    Other women saw

  32. جميلة يدوم في

    قلبي منها مظهر

    Perhaps what I mentioned

    Was caution's call

  33. كما أريد يستوي

    منظرها والمخبر

    But nothing in life warns me of danger

    Like avoiding what I fear

  34. تحب ما أحبه

    تنكر ما قد أنكر

    Yet I loathe that one day

    I'll be scorned and derided

  35. تجتنب الذي أمَلْ

    لُه ومنه أنفر

    Mocked all my life, ridiculed

    That's why I remain unwed waiting

  36. وعن صفاء قلبها

    عيونها تعبر

  37. بلا رياء في ضمي

    ر الشريف يخطر

  38. يصحبها في كل طو

    ر من حياتي وطر

  39. وإنني راض بأن

    نها لقلبي تأسر

  40. أظنني على التي

    طلبتها لا أعثر

  41. لأجل هذا لا أزا

    ل عازباً أنتظر

  42. أخاف أن امرأتي

    تخونني وتغدر

  43. فتضمر العناد لي

    والموت فيما تضمر

  44. لو أنني في بأس مَت

    ريداتَ كنتُ أصبر

  45. لكنني أضن بال

    نفس التي لا تقدر

  46. لذا قضت بأنني

    لصحتي أوفّر

  47. لأجل هذا لا أزا

    ل عازباً أنتظر

  48. إني راءٍ ضيقَ مَنْ

    تزوجوا معتبر

  49. بالشدة التي هوى

    فيها العديد الأكثر

  50. أكره أن أنظر ما

    من النساء نظروا

  51. وربما كان الذي

    عنهن صرت أذكر

  52. تغاليا مني قد

    دعا إليه الحذر

  53. فما على الحياة مم

    ما أتقيه خطر

  54. لكنني أكره أن

    ني في غدٍ أُحْتَقَرُ

  55. فيستهان بي مدى

    عمري ومني يسخر

  56. لأجل هذا لا أزا
