قال الطبيب تبسَّمْ

تُعِنْ على الداء طبي

The doctor smiled and said,

"A smile will aid in healing."

فقلت هل ذاك يغني

وقد تحكم كربي

I replied, "Will that help

When grief has gripped my being?

لئن تبسم ثغري

فما تبسم قلبي

Though my lips may turn and smile,

My heart does not rejoice."
