Oh, if only I were a sword of old
Or a cannon firing deadly shots
Or a towering, distant citadel
Or a cruiser smelling the fight
Or a soldier prepared to invade
Defending my people and my sultan
Striking the stubborn, habitual foe
Until I see my precious blood
Flowing amidst the ranks
And their brains splatter my limbs
As my body slowly decays
Or I gain victory over my enemies
And bend in proud celebration
With my banner shading their land
And stand over them as judge
So I’m honored amongst my people
And attain good repute and glory
Better than the despair that saddened me
Until in agony I lost my youth
With no cares but being filled with woes
By everything that will not restore the past
I complain of the foe and compose verse
But none answer my call
Nor mourn what saw my misery
God’s Caliph I remain, crying out
Striving in battle against afflictions
May the best of prophets stay pleased with you
And the Muslims live in goodness and peace
