مملكتي تملأ سدسَ الأرضِ

بَسطيَ فيها مطلقٌ وقبضي

My kingdom fills a sixth of the earth

I have spread freely in it, giving and withholding

فيها من الشعوب كل كابرِ

ومن رجال الحرب كل قاهرِ

In it are all the great peoples

And all the victorious warriors

لكنها قليلة الثغورِ

بعيدةُ البرِّ عن البحورِ

Yet it has few mountain passes

Far from the land are the seas

لم يُغنني ما ليَ في البلطيكِ

عن مورد في غيره وشيكِ

I was not satisfied with what I had in the Baltic

Compared to what I could gain elsewhere

وما انتفاعي بعباب الأسودِ

ما دام محصوراً بجيش الأسَدِ

And my black fleets are useless

As long as they're trapped by the Lion's army

فلست فيه سالكاً طريقا

ما ملك الأتراكُ ذا المضيقا

So I cannot travel the route

As long as the Turks control the strait

عليَّ أدنى المشرقين استعصى

لأُمْضِيَنَّ همتي في الأقصى

The East eludes my control

I must fulfill my ambition in the Far East

ولا أرى لشعبيَ السمينِ

أكثر خصباً من بلاد الصينِ

And I see no land more fertile for my prosperous people

Than the land of China

إن دان لي مغولها والتترُ

أتيت ما لم يأته إسكندرُ

If its Mongols and Tatars submit to me

I will go where Alexander never went

ينشأ فيهم مثل تيمور لنكِ

لي وأتيلاذي القوَى والفتكِ

There will arise among them another Timur

To be my mighty warrior of destruction

فأفتح الدنيا إذن وأقهرُ

كما اشتهى بطرسُ جدي الأكبرُ

I will then conquer the world

As my grandfather Peter the Great wished

حسبي من القوقاز والقوزاقِ

أنهما نطاق ملكي الراقي

It is enough that the Caucasus and the Cossacks

Form the belt of my ever-growing kingdom

لكنني أحذر كيد الدولِ

إن لم أضللها بأقوى الحيلِ

But I beware the guile of foreign powers

Unless I trick them with my strongest cunning
