O people of Marrakesh, my soul is weary,
The warner was truthful in your ignorance,
After deposing your servant Abdul Aziz, we see
Abdul Hafeez restless on his throne,
He flees from you to the shackles of an usurper,
When you flee to your brethren in bitterness,
If you disown him, you've disowned his brother, and if
He steals, his brother stole before him,
If he was a neighbor, was it not easier for you,
To be patient with him, than to separate in discord?
You lost just as he was lost, so take your share,
Of the fate which in Egypt had come to pass before,
You reminded her of scattered whims,
When one with zeal remembers, he swoons,
You were the rear of a caravan led by a few,
An uncle, so when his appointed time came he followed,
So O the reckoner of the two partners who
Agreed upon your captive promises in Marrakesh,
I truly doubt this silence, do you want
What your confidant attained for himself?
O skilled in deceiving people, they now see you again
In their abandonment, as cunning,
I know these roads from old,
And does my knowledge of the roads avail them?
My prisons are so narrow that I cannot
Move my hand or bend my neck,
If not for yearning for the Bosphorus, at dawn
My soul would not have escaped my body,
So would that after despairing of its angels,
I die in its surge, not attaining them, drowned.
