1. حسب البلاد تَنَبُّؤاً وتكهُّنا

    يا قوم أين نضالكم حول المنى

    According to the country, predicting and guessing,

    O people, where is your struggle for desires?

  2. قد كاد مؤتمر الخلافة ينقضي

    من قبل أن يقضي بمقدور لنا

    The caliphate conference is about to end,

    Before it decides something for us.

  3. ما للرسول قليلةٌ أنباؤه

    وجد الطريق كما يود أم انثنى

    How little is the news of the Messenger,

    He found the way as he wanted, or turned away.

  4. حامت هواجس من هنالك منكمُ

    وأضرُّ عاقبةً هواجسُ من هنا

    From there, anxieties crept upon you,

    And the worst consequence is anxieties from here.

  5. قد راعني متشائماً متطيراً

    من راقني متفائلاً متيمنا

    I was pessimistic and worried,

    Unlike whoever saw me optimistic and content.

  6. إني حزنت عليكمُ وعجيبةٌ

    أن نحمل البلوى وأن لا نحزنا

    I grieved for you, and it's wondrous

    That we carry tribulations yet feel no sorrow.

  7. يا ويحكم من محنة لو أنها

    نزلت من الباغي لكانت أهونا

    O how woeful if it had descended

    From the oppressor, it would have been easier.

  8. هل نبعث البدنَ الدفينَ من الثرى

    ونخط للروح القوي المدفنا

    Shall we resurrect the buried body from the soil

    And chart a path for the buried mighty soul?

  9. والحيُّ أولى بالندى من بائدٍ

    بالٍ وإن جاز الكواكب ما بنى

    The living are more deserving of dew than the perished

    However high the planets he built rise.

  10. في الحاضر الجاري لمصر مشاغلٌ

    عما حوى تاريخ مصر ودونا

    In current Egypt there are preoccupations

    Beyond what its history contained and recorded.

  11. وطِلابها البطلُ المنجِّي قبلما

    تطري وترعى الصانع المتفننا

    And its heroes, the savior knight before

    It flies and pastures the ingenious maker.

  12. أين المعيد إلى البناء رواءه

    بعد الذي بدأ البناء وكونا

    Where is the restorer of its glory

    After he who began the building and created?

  13. أولى بمن ذكر القديم وقد نأى

    أن يستعد لما أتى ولما دنا

    More deserving than one who recalled the ancient

    Is one preparing for what came and drew near.

  14. وأحق بالذكرى سجايا أمة

    من قبل ذكرك أصلها والمعدنا

    And the remembering of the traits of a nation

    Is worthier than recalling its origin and source.

  15. جل المجاهد في اختيار مصيره

    عن أن يتيه بأمسه أو يفتنا

    The most honorable is one who chooses his fate

    Not one losing his way in his past or tempted.

  16. عندي سرائر لا أبوح بها وإن

    كانت جوىً عندي وكانت لي ضنى

    I have secrets I do not divulge though

    They were intimate to me and I cherished them.

  17. أغلالُ نيلكمُ أخفُّ عقوبةً

    من أن يغرَّبَ حرُّكم أو يسجنا

    The shackles of your Nile are lighter punishment

    Than your free soul gets Westernized or imprisoned.

  18. وتزلزل الوادي أقل كريهة

    من أن يهون لواؤكم أو يغبنا

    And the valley's tremors are less hateful

    Than your banner's dishonor or loss.

  19. هل تحجمون وخصمكم متأهبٌ

    متلهفٌ جبنُ الرجال هو الخنى

    Do you refrain while your opponent awaits,

    Eager - the cowardice of men is disgrace.

  20. أطمعتموه فاستطال عليكمُ

    متنمراً وانساب فيكم مثخنا

    You let him gain audacity and tyrannize,

    Infiltrating you with injuries and wounds.

  21. بذلُ الجريءِ حياتَه كحياتِه

    والموتُ كل الموت في أن يجبنا

    The valiant risks his life as his life,

    And death's totality is but to show cowardice.

  22. إني لأخشى ذلك الجوَّ الذي

    بهر العيون تقلُّباً وتلوُّنا

    I fear that climate which dazzled

    The eyes with such fluctuations and changes.

  23. وأخاف أن تسعى صلالُ دهاتِه

    من بعد ما عبثت عواصفه بنا

    And I dread the depravity of its notions

    Spreading after its storms had toyed with us.

  24. طالت وعودهمُ فصارت عادة

    منهم سئمناها وعادت ديدنا

    Long have their promises been, becoming a habit

    We're tired of and has become their creed.

  25. جربتم الأسباب وهي كثيرة

    فاخترتم العف الصريح الليِّنا

    You tried many means and found

    Clear, straightforward discretion best.

  26. ورأيتم الشرق العتيد مسايراً

    ووجدتمُ الغرب العنيد مؤمَّنا

    And you saw the ready East conforming

    And found the stubborn West secure.

  27. لا صلح بعد خصومة إلا إذا

    وثق الغريم من الغريم وأيقنا

    No peace after feud unless

    The foe trusts the foe and feels assured.

  28. ما نحن أسلاب الطعين المرتمي

    يوماً ولسنا بالمتاع المقتنى

    We're no cheap wares of the spiteful

    One day, nor are we goods to be bought.

  29. ملكَ البلادِ وفيك سلوتُها لدى

    ما كابدت من دهرها فيما جنى

    You possess the country and in you lies its mantle,

    After what you endured of its days and reaped.

  30. وموِّطدَ الآمالِ وهي مكارمٌ

    لك أطلقت أقلامنا والألسنا

    And security of hopes while they are virtues

    Our pens and tongues were loosened to you.

  31. ومبشرَ الأوطانِ باستقلالها

    متأهباً بالبأس فيها والغنى

    And the bringer of hope to the countries of their independence,

    Ready with might and wealth in them.

  32. قد أعلن الشعب الأمين وحسبه

    إخلاصه للتاج فيما أعلنا

    The loyal people have declared, and their loyalty suffices,

    Their devotion to the crown in what we declared.

  33. ورعى لجدك فضله وكفى به

    لك ناصراً ولعرش مصر ممكّنا

    And they respected your ancestor's merit, it sufficed them

    As your supporter and empowering the Egyptian throne.

  34. ما في الضمائر غير ما ترضى به

    أو ما رأيت وجوهنا والأعينا

    In consciences only what you accept,

    Or what you saw in our faces and eyes.

  35. أكبرت للشعب الأمين جهاده

    ورعى أمانة من أنال وأحسنا

    I exalted the loyal people's struggle

    And respected the honesty of one who gained and did good.

  36. وأعدَّ للحرية الزهراء ما

    ترجوه فاستكمل قواه مهيمنا

    And prepared for the golden liberty what

    It hopes, so its powers became sovereign.

  37. وخذوا السجل بكل شرط عادل

    للجانبين معاهداً أن تضمنا

    Take the register with every fair condition

    As a treaty binding both parties.

  38. حكم المرافق ما ترى ولغيرنا

    ولغيرهم حكم القواضب والقنا

    Governance of transportation as you see, and for others

    And others, governance of motorboats and canals.

  39. ماذا عليهم لو تواصوا بالذي

    قضت السماء ليسكنوا ولنسكنا

    What would they lose if they consulted on what

    The heavens decided, that they and we settle?

  40. فلعلهم يجدون ودَّ مجاملٍ

    من بعد ما وجدوا المراس الموهنا

    Perhaps they will find the affection of a flatterer

    After they found the touchstone disgraced.

  41. إن الذي أذن الزمان ببعضه

    لمبشر بجميعه أن تأذنا

    What time has permitted in part

    Foretells its entirety will permit.

  42. ما الفاتح الغازي أجل مآثراً

    من ناصح جمع القلوب وحصَّنا

    No conqueror has greater feats

    Than one uniting hearts and fortifying.

  43. في جدِّك المثل العظيم وقدوة

    لك في أب عمر البلاد ومدَّنا

    In your ancestor is the great example and model

    For you in the father of Egypt's cities and civilization.

  44. لك طاعةٌ ومحبةٌ من أمة

    أغنيتها لسواك عن أن تذعنا

    For you is the obedience and love of a nation

    Whose wealth sufficed over needing to submit.

  45. إنا إلى فصل الخطاب بحاجة

    من بعد ما وضح الهدى وتبينا

    We're in need of concluding the discourse

    After the guidance became clear and evident.

  46. شيعاً وأحزاباً نسير وما لنا

    إلا رضى التاج المؤلف بيننا

    Into parties and factions we walk, and we have

    Nothing but the crown's content between us.

  47. فإذا استرد الشعب سابق شمله

    فقد استرد كيانه والموطنا

    So when the people regain their former unity,

    They will regain their entity and homeland.

  48. نغدو وعند ممالك الدنيا لنا

    من حرمةٍ ما للممالك عندنا

    We shall go while in the realms of the world, ours

    Is an inviolability unknown to their realms.

  49. فتسرنا العقبى وترضينا وكم

    أرضى وكم سر الثواب المؤمنا

    So we will be pleased by the reward and satisfied, and how

    Much the faithful were pleased and rewarded!
