    إن كلفوك لغاية إدراكا

    Slow down to test the path with your steps

    If they tasked you with reaching a goal

  2. يا صاحب الجاه العريض تحية

    لو هز عطفَك شاعرٌ حياك

    Greetings, O owner of vast glory

    If a poet swayed your kindness, he greeted you

  3. أهلاً بصارمك الطويل ومرحباً

    إن لم تضعه في مكان نداكا

    Hello to your long sword, and welcome

    If you do not place it in the scabbard by your side

  4. في مصر شعب لا يضام ومالكٌ

    متفرد لا يقبل الإشراكا

    In Egypt, there is an undefeated people, and you are

    A sole ruler who accepts no partnership

  5. تلقاك صافية السماء وديعة

    ما للبريء الحر أن يخشاك

    Serene sky receives you graciously

    Why would the innocent free man fear you?

  6. ما أنت حابس نيلها يوماً ولا

    أهرامها مهدومة بقواكا

    You never dammed its Nile, nor

    Demolished its pyramids with your forces

  7. اللّه أكبر من جيوشك سطوة

    والدهر أبعد من مدى مرماكا

    God is greater than your tyrannical armies

    And time is farther than the range of your projectiles

  8. ولأنت أعلى همة وشمائلاً

    من أن تَمُدَّ لآمنين شباكا

    You are too high in ambition and traits

    To cast nets for those who live in peace

  9. وأبر من أن تلتوي حقداً على

    أسرى هنا يتلمسون فكاكا

    And too noble to coil hatred around

    Prisoners here, who seek deliverance

  10. هل يذنب الجرحى إذا هم حاولوا

    دون الضواري صيحة وحراكا

    Are the wounded guilty if they

    Attempt, beyond the predators, a cry and movement?

  11. هل كان للألمان فيهم مأرب

    يوماً إذا ما جاملوا الأتراكا

    Did the Germans ever have

    Any feud with them when they courted the Turks?

  12. ما كان بغياً حبهم ولو اَنَّه

    أعيا وأشقى اللائم الأفاكا

    Their love was never ill-willed even if

    He wearied and tormented the blamer, the wicked

  13. لسنا قطيعاً غاب راعيه كما

    كنا ولست الضيغم الفتاكا

    We are no flock whose shepherd is lost

    As we were, and you are no ferocious beast

  14. يأبى عليك وقد بلوت نفوسنا

    ماضي احتراسك أن نكون عداكا

    Your past vigilance refuses

    That we become your enemies

  15. ضمنت تجاربك التي أحسنتها

    في مصر أن تعصي الذي أغراكا

    Your experiments here, which you perfected,

    Assured that you would defy he who deceived you

  16. إن كنت طلق الوجه أو متجهماً

    فاللّه يعلم منتهى نجواكا

    Whether you are gentle-faced or frowning

    God knows the extent of your salvation

  17. ولعل شأنك في مشيبك غير ما

    أسلفته في عنفوان صباكا

    And perhaps your manner in your old age is unlike

    What you did in the zeal of your youth

  18. فليهدأ المتطيّرون هنا وإن

    قصفت رعود المرجفين هناكا

    So let the apprehensive here be calm even if

    The rumbling of the fearful thundered there

  19. ضجّوا وعادوا ينصتون وربما

    سبقت يمينك بالعظائم فاكا

    They clamored and returned to silence, maybe

    Your right hand preceded with great deeds, vanquishing

  20. لك ما تشاء من البلاد سوى الذي

    لا يدَّعي فيها الذي ولاكا

    You can have whatever you want of the countries, except what

    Does not claim in it the one who governed it

  21. وإذا عنيت بكل مقضيٍّ فمن

    أولى بإنجاز الوعود سواكا

    And if you intend every decree, then who

    Is more worthy of fulfilling promises than you?

  22. ميثاق دولتك الكبيرة خير ما

    ترعاه لو عدل الذي استرعاك

    The covenant of your great state is the best

    That you would care for, if the just guided you

  23. يا فاتح الخرطوم بالجند الذي

    أمسى فدى أسلابها وفداكا

    O opener of Khartoum with the army

    That spent itself redeeming its captives, and sacrificed for you

  24. أذكر صنائعه التي دبَّرتها

    حتى بلغت بها رفيع علاكا

    Remember its exploits that you arranged

    Until you reached with it your lofty ascent

  25. ومحامل الأبطال بعد قتالهم

    إنا لأقربهم إلى رحماكا

    And the endeavors of the heroes after their fighting

    We are closer to their mercy than you

  26. إن الطهور بنانه أولى بما

    نوَّلت ذاك الأغلب السفّاكا

    The pure at heart are more deserving of what

    You gave that most shedding murderer

  27. فأقم بمصر مقام ضيف محسن

    وعليهمُ أن يكرموا مثواكا

    So stay in Egypt like a guest doing good

    And it is for them to honor your dwelling

  28. واذكر لوادي النيل نعمته عسى

    تعطي بنيه بعض ما أعطاكا

    And remember the Nile Valley’s blessing, perhaps

    You would give its sons some of what it gave you

  29. فإذا تجاوزت الكنانة فافتتح

    ما شاء عزمك واصعد الأفلاكا

    So when you exceed graciousness, inaugurate

    Whatever your resolve wants, and ascend the heavens

  30. في غير مصر ذرائع ومواقع

    للمستزيد مطامعاً وعراكا

    In places other than Egypt, there are pretexts and positions

    For the ambitious, with more toils and clashes

  31. ولئن غضبت على الأباة فصبرهم

    أولى وأجمل من رجاء رضاكا

    And if you grow angry at the refusal, their patience

    Is better and more beautiful than hoping for your approval

  32. فاعرف لهم عذر الحريص إذا همُ

    لم يسلموا لك ما تنال يداكا

    So recognize for them the excuse of the zealous when they

    Did not surrender to you what your hands seize
