ماذا دهاك من النوائبْ
سلطانة القوم الغوالبْ
What misfortunes have befallen you
O queen of the victorious people
بلغ الردى فيكتوريا
فالأرض مظلمة الجوانبْ
The land is plunged into darkness
With grief for the one of great feats
تهتز من حزن على
ذات المآثر والمناقبْ
Whose mention lights up the obscure
With flames of passion ever melting
وتشق صدراً عن فؤا
د من لهيب الوجد ذائبْ
Her spirit and her soul lament
Between hope and tribulation
وا لهفتاه وروحها
بين التراقي والترائبْ
While her family gathers round
All weeping, wailing for their loss
والأهل حول فراشها
والكل باكي العين نادبْ
The ruling kings who held command
Over foreigners and Arabs alike
وهم الملوك الحاكمو
ن على الأعاجم والأعاربْ
Showed their claws and bared their fangs
Having lost their valor before death, the undefeated conqueror
من كل جهم الوجه لي
ثيِّ الأظافر والمخالبْ
O best of queens, revered is her view
Piercing even the darkest unknown
فقدوا شجاعتهم أما
م الموت وهو أعز غالبْ
O kindest mother who bequeathed
Her children the greatest talents
يا خير حاكمة يجِّل
لي رأيُها داجي الغياهبْ
You left your people desolate
With the sword of your judgment slashing
وأبر أمٍّ أورثت
أبناءها أسمى المواهبْ
In your bright days they attained
The scattered goals they sought
أوحشت شعباً في الشعو
ب بسيف رأيك كان ضاربْ
With the flag of your justice unfurled
Between East and West it waved
قد نال في أيامك ال
بيضاء أشتات المطالبْ
Yours were the cities and ships
The forts, armies and cavalry
للواء عدلك ناشراً
بين المشارق والمغاربْ
The sea was safe in your name
From all danger for every sailor
فلك المدائن والسفا
ئن والمعاقل والكتائبْ
To you belonged the abundant riches
That every treasurer coveted
والبحر يأمن باسمك ال
أخطارَ فيه كلُّ راكبْ
Your crown of gems forged
From the hearts of wonders weeps for you
ولك الكنوز الوافرا
ت يهيم فيها كل حاسبْ
Your throne, exalted during your time
Now bowed down in grief
يبكيك تاج صيغ من
حبات أفئدة العجائبْ
The sword that rested assured
In your right hand when you struck
يبكيك عرش في زما
نك صار مرتفع المناكبْ
Your heart was never cruel
To your aggressive opponents
يبكيك سيف كان في
يمناك مرجوَّ المضاربْ
But protecting the kingdom requires
Readiness for whatever misfortunes may come
ما كان قلبك بالشدي
د على معاديك المشاغبْ
And meeting those who transgress
Needs the caution of vigilant preparation
لكنَّ حفظ الملك يق
ضي بالتأهب للمصائبْ
Victory to the armies you prepared
Who always accompanied you
ولقاء من يطغي بما
لا بد للحذر المراقبْ
They gain from those who offend
Whatever gains you wish
والنصر للجند الذي
أعددته أبداً مصاحبْ
And find in disciplining them
Until they return repenting to you
فينال ممن يعتدي
ما تشتهين من المكاسبْ
How many nations in their arrogance
Went astray, following evil creeds
ويجدُّ في تأديبه
حتى يعود إليك تائبْ
And so rebelled against their neighbors
Heeding only lying wishes
كم أمة ذهب الغرو
ر برشدها شر المذاهبْ
You subdued them and regained
Their ambitions, fearful of your rebuke
فبغت على جاراتها
طوع الأماني الكواذبْ
How often dire events intended
To strike you recoiled defeated
فأخفتِها فاسترجعت
أطماعَها خوف المعاطبْ
While the schemes that crept
Like scorpions you safely thwarted
كم حادث جلل رما
ك بسهمه فارتدَّ خائبْ
Until the stroke of death reached you
After all your eighty years of experience
وأمنت كيداً كان يس
ري مثل ما تسري العقاربْ
Leaving your leaderless troops distraught
Easy prey for the enemies lurking
حتى أصابك من يد ال
موت الزؤام اليوم صائبْ
Their hands unable to wield
Swords and spears when patience flees
بعد الثمانين التي
فيها امتلأت من التجاربْ
Woe to your army after you
No longer able to endure tribulation
وتركت جندك في الوغى
ظُفُرُ الأعادي فيه ناشبْ
Will they stand fast or cede
To every brash invader leaping?
لا تستطيع أكفه
حمل الأسنة والقواضبْ
I see the days darkly looming
The star of fortune setting
كيف القتال وقد غدا ال
ناعي بصبر الجند ذاهبْ
I fear what grave troubles
The morrow will disclose
يا ويل جندك بعد فق
دك من مقاساة المتاعبْ
I wish for your people just rule
Free of defects and impurities
هل يثبتون أمامها
أم يخضعون لكل واثبْ
I hope the whole world will be
United in love for them
إني أرى الأيام مد
برة ونجم السعد غاربْ
For my homeland owes them
Grateful thanks and sweet praise
وأخاف ما يأتي به ال
غدُ من عظيمات المصاعبْ
They lowered tyranny and injustice
And oppressive taxes from us
إني أود لقومك ال
حكم النزيه من الشوائبْ
Showing instead the way of success
Where each soul labors diligently
وأحب أن يمسي جمي
ع العالمين لهم حبائبْ
And returned the dissenter to obedience
Now rewarded for piety
فلهم على وطني جمي
لٌ ذكره بالحمد واجبْ
What worthy counsel did you bequeath
Considering the consequences?
قد خفضوا عنا المغا
رم والمظالم والضرائبْ
Was there an order for your people
To clarify that we still seek?
بل أوضحوا نهج النجا
ح فكل فرد فيه دائبْ
For we have learned the making
Of peace and the waging of war
واسترجعوا العاصي إلي
نا فهو بالطاعات ثائبْ
The years have refined us to love
Both neighbor and distant stranger
ماذا تركت من الوصا
يا المستجادة في العواقبْ
We have a prince guiding our lives
Whose efforts for us are unceasing
هل بينها أمر لقو
مك بالجلاء به نطالبْ
Who enriches the land beyond need
Wishing only the safety of the king
فلقد تعلمنا مصا
نعة المسالم والمحاربْ
True merit escapes unscathed
From blame and malicious attacks
والدهر هذبنا فأح
ببنا الأباعد والأقاربْ
Only when loyal blood spills
Around him on every side
ولنا أمير في ارتقا
ء حياتنا ساع مواظبْ
Is this not the way for all whose hopes
And schemes aspire to high office?
أغنى البلاد عن الكفي
ل ففي نجاة الملك راغبْ
The ambitious ones grasping
For power and positions?
لا يسلم الشرف الصحي
ح من المطاعن والمثالبْ
حتى يراق دم الأعز
ة حوله من كل جانبْ
هل غير ذلك مسلك
للمكثرين من المآربْ
الطامعين الطامحي
ن إلى الرئاسة والمناصبْ
