1. عادت بعودك آمالي وأحلامي

    وهاج قربك تذكاري وتهيامي

    Your return revived my hopes and dreams

    And your nearness stirred my memories and infatuations

  2. وقمت أستنجز الأيام موعدها

    مستشفياً من تباريح وآلامي

    I started to fulfill the days' promise

    Healing from sadness and pains

  3. فما هممت بما أرجوه مجتهداً

    حتى شعرت بنار تحت أقدامي

    Before I strove for what I wished diligently

    I felt a fire beneath my feet

  4. وصائح بيَ لا ترجُ الخلاصَ فقد

    سُدَّ السبيل إليه منذ أعوام

    Voices calling me - no salvation - the path

    To it has been blocked for years

  5. وما قضى اللّه إلا بالذي عجزت

    عن حمله مصر من خوف وأوهام

    What God decreed except what I was unable

    To carry from fear and illusions

  6. إذ هد أركانها تيار غالبها

    وقد يهد الرواسي الزاخر الطامي

    When a raging current shook its pillars

    And may shake the overflowing dams

  7. فما بها غير أنفاس ترددها

    ومعشر مستكين غير مقدام

    It only has sighs that echo in it

    And a miserable group, not daring

  8. راضٍ بما اعتاد من ذل ومتربة

    وهول عادية بل جور أحكام

    Content with what they got used to from humiliation and dust

    And accustomed injustice, rather injustice of verdicts

  9. فما تذكَّرَ يوماً أن موطنه

    باتت تمزقه أنياب ضرغام

    Never remembering one day that their homeland

    Wolves' fangs tear it at night

  10. يعرِّض النفس للباغي بلا عُدَدٍ

    حتى يصاب فيشكو قسوة الرامي

    Exposing themselves to the oppressor boundlessly

    Until he is hit, then complains of the archer's ruthlessness

  11. يا قادماً وعيون الخلق ترمقه

    أقم على الرحب يا ذا المطمح السامي

    O you who come while people's eyes watch you

    Stand in the open, O you of high ambition

  12. تأمَّل اليوم ما يبدو لعينك من

    وجوه حزبين أعوانٍ ولوّام

    Look today at what appears before your eyes

    Faces of two parties, supporters and blamers

  13. فمن رأى خطأ مسعاك بات وفي

    فؤاده منك غيظ محرق حام

    Whoever saw you make a mistake, anger remains

    In his heart against you, burning and zealous

  14. فما تلقّاك إلا غاضباً حنقاً

    كأنما أنت جان شر آثام

    None will meet you except angry and indignant

    As if you are an evil, sinful demon

  15. ومن رآك مصيباً قام محتفلاً

    مكبراً لك يُبدي كل إكرام

    And whoever sees you as right will celebrate

    Congratulating you, showing all respect

  16. يظن أنك لا تنفك ذا أمل

    في خوض معمعة أو نشر أعلام

    Thinking you always have hope

    Of entering turmoil or raising flags

  17. وأن تعود إلى ماضي نفوذك في ال

    وادي وتصبح ذا نقض وإبرام

    And that you return to your former influence in

    The valley and regain rupture and reconciliation

  18. كأنما هو ناس ما دهاك بما

    ردتك أهواله ذا مخلب دام

    As if they are people who do not know you

    And what ordeals returned you, with lasting claw

  19. ممزق الشمل مقهور الإرادة مك

    سور الجناحين في بؤس وإعدام

    Tearing apart unity, defeating will, wings clipped

    In misery and annihilation

  20. تعدو أمام سراياك التي امتلأت

    رعباً فلم تر منها غير إحجام

    Passing by your palaces which filled with

    Fear, seeing no movement from them

  21. يا ثائراً رام إصلاح البلاد بما

    أقام من فتن فيها وإفسادِ

    O rebel who wanted to reform the country with what

    He started an ordeal and corruption in it

  22. وغره نفر أبدوا مآربهم

    في دفع كل مغير جائر عاد

    And whom a group misled, showing their

    Intentions to stop any transgressing tyrant

  23. فصاح في الناس يدعوهم ويجبرهم

    على الجهاد إلى أن أزعج الوادي

    He shouted at the people, calling on them and forcing them

    To jihad until he disturbed the valley

  24. وقام بالأمر لم يحكم وسائله

    ولا استعان بتدبير وإرشاد

    He did not consider his means

    Or seek wisdom and guidance

  25. وسار يحسب أن الفوز متصل

    لجنده باتصال الماء والزاد

    Walking thinking victory was guaranteed

    For his soldiers like water and supplies

  26. وما درى أن أقوى الطامحين إلى

    غصب البلاد له باتوا بمرصاد

    Not knowing the strongest of those coveting

    To usurp the country lay in wait for him

  27. وكان ما كان مما ليس يجهله

    لا حاضر يقظ الذكرى ولا باد

    It happened what the vigilant present does not ignore

    Nor the gone forget

  28. وقائع شاب منها الدهر وامتلأت

    رعباً بها الأرض من غور وأنجاد

    Events the ages recorded which filled

    The earth with awe from valley to peak

  29. لو يعلم القوم عقباها وغايتها

    ما هُنِّئَت قبلها أم بأولاد

    If they know its consequences and purpose

    It would not be congratulated before happening or when children are born

  30. ما أنس لا أنس يوم ارتدَّ فيلقهم

    عن الحصون ارتداد الهائم الصادي

    Unforgettable, unforgettable is the day their legions

    Retreated from the strongholds like lost camels

  31. مغادرين جموعاً عند غالبهم

    مستسلمين بأرواح وأجساد

    Abandoning in groups against their defeater

    Surrendering souls and bodies

  32. فما مضى يومهم إلا وقادتهم

    مُثَقَّلون بأغلال وأصفاد

    Their day did not pass except as their leaders

    Were burdened with shackles and chains

  33. وتم للإنكيز النصر واتخدوا

    منهم لهم خير أنصار وروّاد

    And the English were granted victory and took

    The best supporters and pioneers from them

  34. واعتاد حزبُك ضيمَ المعتدي فغدا

    لشر ما كنت تخشى شرَّ معتاد

    Your party got used to the oppressor's injustice and so

    Became prone to the evil you used to fear

  35. وانقاد مؤتمراً بالأمر منتهياً

    بالنهيِ والخوفُ فيه رائح غاد

    Following orders conclusively

    Forbidden and fearful

  36. قد كنت تخشى على الأوطان حين ترى

    من الأجانب فيها بعضَ أفراد

    You used to fear for the homeland when you saw

    Some foreigners in it

  37. واليوم ضاقت بحشد كالرمال فلا

    يحصيه في ألف عام ألفُ عدّاد

    And today it is too narrow for the hordes like sand

    Innumerable in a thousand years by counters

  38. يموج كالبحر ضمتنا غواربُهُ

    فأغرقتنا بإرغاء وإزباد

    They surge like the sea, their ships

    Drowned us with gurgling and overflow

  39. بتنا أسارى خطوب لا مفر لنا

    من أسرها وعدمنا المنقذ الفادي

    We remained captives of tribulations, no escape

    From their captivity, our absence of a savior

  40. إذا بكينا ليشفى الدمعُ غلَّتَنا

    هاج الأعادي بإنذار وإيعاد

    If we cry to relieve our anguish

    The enemy rages with threat and warning

  41. فنحبس الدمع بل نبدي الخضوع لهم

    وفي الجوانح نخفي نار أحقاد

    So we hold back tears, rather show submission

    And hide the fire of grudges in our chests

  42. هذي معيشة قوم رمتَ رفعتهم

    يوماً فأسقطتَهم من طرف منطاد

    This is the livelihood of a people whom one day

    You raised then dropped from a catapult

  43. فلا يغرك من مصر زخارفُها

    وما بها من بساتين وعمران

    Do not be fooled by Egypt's luxuries

    And gardens and buildings in it

  44. فإنما هو ثوب ساتر بدناً

    أذابه طول أدواء وأحزان

    It is but a garment covering a body

    Melted by long pains and sorrows

  45. ولا يسرك ما قلناه من ظفر

    وما فتحناه من نوب وسودان

    Do not be happy with what we said of victory

    And what we opened of Nubia and Sudan

  46. فلا نصيب لنا منه نعيش به

    وإنما نحن في يأس وحرمان

    We have no share of it to live by

    Rather we are in despair and deprivation

  47. باتت بلادك فيما لا تطيب به

    نفسٌ لحر ولا تلتذ عينان

    Your country became of what no free

    Soul enjoys or eyes delight in

  48. لو نستطيع انطلاقاً من مضائقها

    خلت معالمها من كل عثماني

    If we could escape its straits

    Its landmarks would be devoid of Ottomans

  49. ماذا الحنين إليها وهي غاضبة

    تأبى لقاءَك من هجر وسلوان

    What is this longing to it while it is angry

    Refusing to meet you, estranged

  50. عساك رمت بهذا أن تشارك في

    حمل النوائب قلب المعشر العاني

    May you have caused this to share

    The burden of afflictions with the suffering people

  51. لولاك ما سلب الأعداء نعمته

    ولا تحكِّمَ فيه كلُّ خوان

    If not for you, the enemy would not have taken its bliss

    And allowed every traitor control

  52. وكان للقطر عن هذا الشقاء غنى

    لو كنت أخلصتَ في سر وإعلان

    The country would have been rich without this misery

    If you were sincere in secret and public

  53. ما كان أهدأنا بالاً وأحسننا

    حالاً وأبعدنا عن كل عدوان

    Nothing would have kept us safer and in

    Better conditions, further from all aggression

  54. إذ الحكومة عدلٌ في يدي ملكٍ

    صافي السريرة ذي رفق وإيمان

    As government is justice in the hands of a king

    Pure of conscience, merciful and faithful

  55. نمسي ونصبح في حرية ولنا

    على صروف الليالي كل سلطان

    We sleep and wake in freedom and have

    Power over the nights' changes

  56. والنيل مطَّرِدٌ عذبٌ نتيه به

    على الفرات وسيحان وجيحان

    The Nile steadily flows sweetly wandering

    Better than Euphrates, Sihon, and Jeyhoun

  57. والشمل مجتمع والبشر ملتمع

    والعيش ما بين ميدان وبستان

    Unity is together and people assembled

    Livelihood between field and orchard

  58. قد كدر الدهر بعد الصفو مورده

    فالكل ما بين ظمآن وغصّان

    Time has disturbed its clear spring after peace

    Everyone between thirsty and regretful

  59. بفتنة ما جنينا من عواقبها

    إلا أشد عقابٍ يزجر الجاني

    With sedition whose consequences we did not reap

    Except most severe punishment deterring the sinner

  60. فيا بواقي العرابيِّين ليس لكم

    أن ترجعوا ما تقضَّى منذ أزمان

    So O remaining Arabists, you cannot

    Return what passed long ago

  61. ولا تردّوا قضاءً ناب موطنكم

    بما تقدم من بغي وطغيان

    Nor reverse the decree which afflicted your homeland

    With the past tyranny and aggression

  62. إذ خيب اللّه ما كانت نفوسكم

    تخفي وتعلن من ظن وحسبان

    As God thwarted what your souls

    Concealed and declared of assumptions and judgment

  63. كفاكمُ ما لقيتم بعد ثورتكم

    من التشتُّت عن أهل وأوطان

    Enough the dispersement you faced after your

    Revolution from family and homelands

  64. فاستغفروا ربكم منها لعلكمُ

    تحظون منه بغفران ورضوان

    Ask your Lord for forgiveness, perhaps you

    Will attain forgiveness and satisfaction from Him

  65. ويا بلاديَ مالي كلما نظرت

    عيناي ما فيك من جند وأعوان

    And O my country, whenever I look

    My eyes see no soldiers or helpers

  66. وسطوةٍ للدخيل المعتدي اضطربت

    روحي وقرَّح سكبُ الدمع أجفاني

    And the foreign oppressor's might disturbs

    My soul and tears shedding hurts my eyelids

  67. وا حُرَّ شوقي إلى يوم أراك به

    في مأمن منه بل وا طولَ تحناني

    O longing to see you safe

    From it, O endless pity

  68. فلا نطيع سوى عبد الحميد ولا

    نرضى أميراً سوى عباسك الثاني

    We obey none but Abdülhamid

    And accept no prince but your Abbas II

  69. هناك أهتف بالأشعار منتعشاً

    مهنِّئاً أطرب الدنيا بألحاني

    There I will chant poems refreshed

    Congratulating, delighting the world with my tunes

  70. يا مصر دام لك النيل الوفيُّ ولا

    أقلَّني فيك غصن غير ريان

    O Egypt, may your faithful Nile last and no

    Branch in you dry except thriving
